NOT!

Just checked the eggs and nothing going on in there right now. The chicks jumped up when they saw me even the little one that pipped at the wrong end. That one still walks funny but, the others are not picking on it.

I was going to candle this morning if there was no more activity but, I have another PIP!
So far it's 5 hatched and 1 pip.

Cyn-How is your hatch doing?

How long can a hatch go on without the bacteria from the earlier hatching affect the later ones?

Well, I have 4 Delawares and 5 Orps hatched, one Orp died after pipping, and only two Orps and one Delaware are not pipped yet. I've encountered something I've never had happen before, three Orps pipped on the wrong end. There was no mistake about which end was the big end when I set them, so they were put in the turner properly. No idea about that problem. Had to help one due to being too large to get out of the smaller end. One is just laying there, same deal with small end pipping. Day 22 starts just after 11 a.m. today.

Cyn-Is this the hatch with the chicks that looked behind where they should be? I had the one that piped at the wrong end too and it had been one that looked behind. I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it-being smaller they could turn?

No, that's the next batch of 9, on Day 20 today. These all seemed fine. And I'm sorry, I forgot to answer your question about how long it can go on. I think that may depend on how clean the hatch was. My others on Day 20 are in a HovaBator and will hatch in there-it's not my main one, but one DH got at a yard sale and added a fan to, one of the older square ones. Works fine, so I'm doing those shipped Orps in that one. The one with my turner has 8 Suedelettes on Day 4 in it. Before they hit Day 18, I'll have the Fridge-a-Bator all cleaned up again and ready to go. It's really easy to clean.

The hatching has been clean. I have also removed the empty shells and the rings they sat on as I pull chicks. I know I'm suppose to leave them in but, two of them were using the other eggs to bounce off. I'm just worried about the 4 left in there.

I also have the three eggs in the wiper bator due tomorrow.

We removed one unpipped Orp due to the shell looking dried out. The peep had expired sometime after Day 15. I hate when that happens! There are three pipped still, one on the wrong end, dang it. It's a good sized pip and the shell was knocked off by the other little hoodlums.
