Hatch Complete/Penedesenca Eggs

Heidi,

What's going on today? Did the rest make it? The suspense is killing me/us. I imagine you are hovering over the incubator instead of the computer.

The pipe cleaner idea is a good one. I've added that to my shopping list for today.

Note to myself:
Make sure there is wireless coverage for the notebook computer near the incubator.

That way I can read this forum while chicks are hopefully hatching.

I hope Heidi doens't mind my post to her thread, but I know there are lots of you who were watching, wondering...and crossing fingers & saying prayers for her hatch! She did end up hatching 5 of the 11 she started with! She did some pretty major intervening, and I had mixed feelings about it in the beginning, truth be told...but, as the hours went by, I realized those little ones weren't going to pop out on their own, and I changed my mind! (I can do that, I'm a woman!) Thank goodness she helped - I think 4 of the 5 wouldn't have made it if she hadn't! I'm sure Heidi will give more details & pics of the new little ones soon! She's exhausted from not getting good sleep, worrying about the little ones...

Hiedi, I am very happy for you. Congrats on a job well done!
I am having a horrible hatch and had to assist on the two that are out and will have to pip the third, so I know how difficult this has been for you . I am thrilled the babies are here to be loved!

Out of the 6 fertile eggs 5 made it. The sixth chick quit breathing while I was a church cleaning. I did open up the shell and it had some deformities and its yoke was not absorbed. Out of the other 5 - only 1 pipped and hatched itself - 3 hatched out after I had chipped a dime size hole on the air cell end - and then the last one - after watching it struggle and its breathing slow down, I decided to break open the shell myself. The chick's yoke was absorbed and she was fine. I think it may have been too big for the shell.
Here they are all sleeping snug in their new home. Thanks for all your responses!

No kidding, Cyn! Right after I got the babies in the brooder I sterilized my bator and dried it. Luckly, I had already placed all 21 eggs (Cyn's eggs) in the turner that afternoon. I quickly put them in with a drop of water in the tray for humidity and all was well. Temps were stablized by 3 a.m. and all has been perfect. Yes, 3 a.m. - I haven't slept a full night since Monday. Isn't this fun!!
