It's not very dangerous, just a test to see if an egg is viable or not. You make sure that there are no cracks or pips in the shell, then you quickly plop the egg in a bowl of 100 F water. Then based on weather it sinks, floats, or rocks, it shows you weather or not the egg is viable!

I am interjecting to give my support. I know you are anxious! It's so hard to wait, feeling that you have "controlled" this situation so far.

I suggest leaving Alien to his/her own devices at this point. Let nature take its course whatever that might be. Look at it this way: if he/she is going to hatch, opening that incubator isn't going to help. It might not hurt, but it isn't going to help. On the other hand, leaving it alone isn't going to hurt it.

Did the test and it floated with pretty much only the air bubble above the surface but no obvious movement. That's good right?
