So I had 3 of 6 eggs from hatch from a clutch of Marans Eggs today. The 3 that hatched all did so pretty close together. The other 3 I know were fertile at one point. But hatch day has ended and were in moving into day 22. I candled the eggs left when I pulled the live chicks out and I think I have some quitters. Anyone care to comment? First here's the new babies. Then the candled eggs. Sorry for the quality. Please do your best to give me any advice. Thanks. Pretty sure the super porous one is a quitter. If not all of them.

Well, definitely leave them in at least 3 more days. Some hatch as late as day 25. Sometimes they are just slow, due to cool spots in the bator or whatever. I can't really tell from the egg candling pics, but I would leave them in at least a couple more days for sure. Adorable chicks btw!

Unfortunately all I have is a 100 lumen tac light from my pistol to candle with right now and the egg shells are thick and dark so it's tough to get a really good pic, but I'm holding out for now.

3 out of 6 for my first hatch in 25 years. I was hoping for better results but what can ya do?

Approaching 23 days. Ive been doing some reading and one of my chicks DID have excess egg contents on it at hatch, possibly indicating my temp is and has been slightly off...? So I raised the temp 0.5 degrees from 99.5 to 100 degrees farenheit per the display. And temporarilyraised humidity a couple points to prevent shrinkwrapping. Still no rotten egg smell. I have just now drilled tiny safety air holes in the 3 remained unmatched eggs, no "eggsplosions" or stinky smells from the eggs so I'm remaining hopeful.

Have you candled them yet today? I would try to do it quick. Shine through the safety hole and look for movement.

No movement, in the egg that looked most viable I see movement when i turn the egg and there is still faint veining. The other has no visible veining the top is completely dark and air cell is huge. The last has a dead embryo inside so one quitter that was removed for sure. 😔

So have you removed some of the eggs? I'm so sorry. How many are definitely alive? I'm guessing you're going to have to assist however many are left?

Emergency assist starting now... the first K appears to have quit right after lockdown. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Sounds good. You've read Sally Sunshine's assisted hatching article, right? Make sure to stop if you see any blood.
