Hatch has started!!

It's day 37. The one was out if the shell the last I checked but still wet. I checked with 2 TSCs near me and neither have ducklings anyway. I'm hoping more will have pipped by tomorrow. I'll keep an eye out in case she leaves the nest. I haven't had 1 hatch so far ahead without any activity from the other eggs. But maybe I'm just bring more observant this time. Only time will tell.

Our first hatch last year we had one hatch on a Tues 2 on Wed and and one on Friday, How's that for spreading them apart. Hopefully you'll have more hatch.

Wow, that is spread out. Mine have always hatched within maybe 2 days of each other. I think my first muscovy hatch was finished be the next morning.

Still just 1 baby this morning, I think. With the way mom is positioned in the nest I didn't just want to randomly grab underneath her. She is in an upside down big bucket so I can't see much. I did pull out 1 egg and it doesn't even look pipped. So, I guess I'll see. Baby appears to be doing well. It was really tucked up under mom but appears okay and alert.

Later, I'll put some feed out for them and see if I can check the other eggs.

Aww I hope you get more, but glad to hear the one is doing good. This long drawn out hatch was a first here and mama sat tight through it all. They are such good mommies. She had 4 more under her that didn't hatch.

Good luck! geez, your making me feel nervous with Dusty's nest due soon... i forgot the anxiety it brings lol I hope you get more. This duck that is sitting only had one that lived, she had two but the one didn't make it, no clue as to why. Her other eggs were duds.

aw, well good luck finding some hatch mates! I hope dusty doesn't do a one off on me... my other ducklings are way to far off to pull a fast one lol

So sorry about the other eggs, Our TSC already had ducklings and chicks last week, earliest ever for them. Hopefully you can find some. That is precious. One is better than none.

Thanks GQ. I was hoping some of the others would hatch. It looks like 3 of them weren't fertile but looks like the others developed to a point at least. This is a long time to wait for just one. I'm hoping that this mom is really good like the last one as this little one is by itself. I do have another brood set to hatch next week. So at least it'll have some (hopefully) younger 1/2 siblings soon.

I'm hoping TSC gets some ducklings in. I really would like to get some Pekin but I think now it would just be sheer luck if they do.

How cute! Congrats JW! I hope you get the exact # of ducklings that you want, whether from hatch or TSC! I think the hatch could go later because of the cold, but I'm no expert. I do think that I may have removed some (too soon) that may have hatched if I'd left them alone last year. Old Lady had the Singleton and it was ok, but after 2 weeks my Khaki had hatched out hers. Good luck anyway! That duckling is cute!

Thanks ML. They are sold out currently and don't know when they are expecting more. That is the silliest thing that I've heard of. Do they just have a deal with different hatcheries saying just send us what you have whenever you want to? I'm hoping maybe they'll get some tomorrow, possibly Wed but I think that may be pushing it.

Thans HDF. Maybe this one little one will be a keeper. Hopefully it's a girl. I've already chosen a male to keep from my older ducklings.
