I didn't think of this! I will have to try that!! Thanks for the info.
I wish mine was laying eggs. I have one hen that's 11 weeks old and one is over 7 years (I am guessing because she isn't laying at all). Then I have 3 roos. One is 11 weeks, another is maybe 10 weeks ( unsure of age) and then the last one is the same age as my older hen. I'm hoping they start fighting all the time and get a long. Never had 3 roos at once.
I am planning on getting a black bantam cochin some time this week that will be laying some eggs. I will be saving her eggs and will try and hatch them.
Wish I could see something when I candle mine... The waiting game is getting tiresome. I want to know now who is developing and who isnt lol.
I have 4 roosters who get along ok they will size each other up now and agin but nothing brutal. When It's time for my welsummer rooster to go back into the big coop I'll put him and the others in at night so there won't be any fighting at least no chasing and trying to hurt one another
Good. The black cochin I am getting is the mother of the 11 week olds. I am hoping the eggs that are in the incubator will have more hens then roos. I dont think my neighbors will enjoy all of them crowing in the morning! Then again I don't hear the elder roo crowing unless I am up and at home (I have to be at work at 4am) to hear him. I have been told he crows at 6:55am everyone morning on the dot.
I candled the eggs to see if I can see anything and it looks like all but maybe 1 or two that are not developing.
