Hatch On Dates: Oct-nov? Dont Forget About This Post!!!

hello may I join in as well? I so wish I had an incubator, my husbend wont let me spend the funds for one. i have a older chochin that has gone blind, her name is Dixi, that is were I get my screen name. Dixi is mom to all our chickens when I get them we put them in with her at night and she takes them right in and is a great mom to them. she is so happy when I give her babies to raise. I so wish I could find a way to sell some chickens. I would like to have Dixi raise them and then sell them when they are ready to start laying you know havet the though stuff done. I love to train them and teach them to come when you call them and it woud be good for Dixi . When you order your eggs were do you get them from? do you think I could set some kind of buisnes selling ready to lay hens? I saw someone selling silkie eggs on this site and was thinking about it. I am worried my broody hens wont be setting by then though.

and i got all my eggs from ebay or my own chickens, u can sell ur own eggs to, i started to sell and ship mine but there all mix breeds, but im still new to all this, my hope is to raise show birds and sell them all young adults. u could possibly start a bussiness like that, sounds like a pretty good plan

The problem with selling laying hens is you have to feed them for 6 months. Have you seen the price of feed lately? I am trying to sell hatching eggs and day old chicks. Much better profit in that. Get started with a group of 6 hens and a rooster of a common brown egg layer. Like Rhode Island Reds or Barred Rocks. You can sell eating eggs to start locally and then work on selling hatching eggs and chicks in spring.

I built mine. I used two boxes of different sizes and wired everything up and placed it in the bigger box and I used a can of "Great Stuff" to insulate it better. As for the top, I used a sunshade for a car. I cut it where I can cover the cardboard lid and then outlined the top. I spent like 30 bucks on it. Here are some pictures of it. So far its working great.

The boxes I used
The top cover
The top uncovered

I have three thermometers. One is digital that I placed outside on top so I can see what it reads and I check the others to make sure they all read about the same. One of the thermometer has humidity indicator on it. Plus I have two PC fans, one blows on the light towards the WHT and one to blow the warm air to the other side the box. I also added a "shield" blocking the light from the eggs.

Just hope it works!!

These are my little baby cochins that was given to me. They are so cute!

When I first incubated eggs I used something like you have, but that was back when I was in middle school. It has been awhile since I had chickens and I missed them a lot! I'll have to setup a photobucket account so I can post pictures of my incubator.

Ok, just got the photobucket account up and the pictures are on there. I want to get an egg turner but right now I have to turn them by hand. I am trying to save up enough to get an egg turner so I can leave it closed up. I ordered my eggs from a member on BYC. They look great. I tried to find someone close to me so they didn't have to travel to far!
