Hatch On Dates: Oct-nov? Dont Forget About This Post!!!

My incubator hassles seem to be over for now. Had a stable night and temps are same as when I went to bed - whew!

Now to figure out the thermometer thing. I bought a new thermometer this morning after testing my thermometers last night and it is totally different too! It is a flukers reptile thermometer - I have it right next to the other flukers and their temp readings are about 6F apart. I think the old flukers is inaccurate - wish I had a way to adjust it. Guess I need to test it again and get an accurate # of how many degrees it is out... I have a feeling it is about 6F. I did the test after midnight and couldn't remember what my results were other than it was reading high.

Now I am itching to candle these eggs and see how many survived all the goings on yesterday! I was pretty much glued to the incubator. THere was a time when the wiggler got down below 90F and then it got up close to 101F but I just opened the lid until it started to drop a bit... so I think they were ok. ONly concern is the humidity as it ran about 25% for some time. BUt I am assuming that since it is early on it should be ok and it was only for a few hours.

Kind of funny, but my main thermometer broke its little switch last night and now only reads in Celsius... my flashlight for candling and peering into the incubator broke and I am waiting for another one to arrive in the mail and I am using a huge 6 volt flashlight for now - so clunky.

Good to hear Godiva!!! My digital meat thermometer was telling me 101 for a day or so just got the Brinsea digital thermometer and its reading 100.3 I think thats ok not sure though. I'm taking the meat thermometer back to lowes tomorrow

my last shipment of eggs finally came today, ganna set them in the bator tonight, they rested alll day yesterday at the post office and all of today when i went and got them till now. ganna put them in around 11pm. all came very well condition, none broke or anything wrong.

I saw stepahanie1992's pictures and I was wondering if you use a regular flashlight or the special one I've seen on the internet. I really hope my eggs are fertile! Oh and what is the best incubator for a LOW low budget girl.

im just using a regular flashlight and i use the darkness of my closet. the flashliight works great, i cup my hand around the egg to block light from going around the egg and it makes it able to see inside the egg. and as for a bator, i have two, i have a $20 one that holds 3 standard eggs and 4 bantam eggs. then i have the little giant still air bator i got for $50 from tractor supply, both work great

Just finished my first serious candling of eggs set 9/21 and 9/23. Out of 38 eggs only 11 are iffy. Some of the EEs are so dark I'm unsure what I'm seeing. A few frizzles appear clear

but every Sizzle is developing with many bouncing all over the egg!

There are a few I am worried may be starting a blood ring, but it doesn't look exactly like the pictures I see online. I marked them questionable and will recheck in a few days. Everyone of these eggs were shipped from BYC members. I swapped for them on the Swap Thread . So far, so good

Usually it is good to candle on about day 8 and by then you should see pretty clearly if there is development going on, even in the eggs that are darkshelled . Sometimes you get a couple weeks into the whole development and they die unexpectedly. That is why people usually candle them a few times during incubation ... it is best to discard them once they are clearly not fertile or have died. I usually candle on day 8, day 14 and then a few days before hatch date...
