Adorable baby!

What incubator are you using? You seem to have lots of temp fluctuations. I wrapped a heavy blanket around my LG. Before I added the blanket it would dip down when the house was cool but is now constantly 99-100. Could you have too many vents open or outside air cooling it?

edited for my poor grammer :p

Well, we candled this morning and we are down from 15 lavender ameraucana bantam eggs to 3! Shipped plus incubator problems = few chicks

hoping to find someone local who can provide a few more eggs to supplement our numbers... we'll see what happens.

We had 9 d'uccle eggs in the incubator. Our girl, Portia, lost her "husband", our beautiful porcelain roo, Charlie, very recently. We set 9 of her eggs, and within 48 hours, our American Gamehen went broody so we gave her Portia's eggs. It's just so much easier to let the hens do all the work. Olga (our American game/EE cross) is a wonderful mother and does everything from incubating the eggs, to protecting her younglings, to integrating them with the flock. Seems that as soon as she integrates a brood, she goes broody AGAIN. This is her 4th broody episode since January. She's ALMOST as reliable as a bator. LOL.

ok i have a question... i candled two eggs that were growing great, these r in a differnt incubator than my other eggs, there in a mini incubator that only holds 3 eggs. Well they look like they have died. they were suppose to hatch next week. Is there a reason they died? temp never changed and i didnt candle thos everyday. and i always wash my hand before hadleing eggs. but they look like there dead, they have no veins in the egg and the baby isnt moving.

Your niece is gorgeous Nmarine!
Not sure whats happening with your eggs Steph, but I hope they are just tricking you and they are fine. Will you leave them until they are due to hatch anyway or are you tempted to pull them out and see whats gone wrong?
I had to take 10 eggs out yesterday, I was going to wait much longer as I'm suspect about what the power failure did to them, but I couldn't contain myself and ended up candling the lot. The 10 I removed were all definite quitters or were clear, there was a surprising ammount of blood rings. The rest appear to have really good veining and even saw a couple of moving babies, but i'm still not very confident that I will end up with many, this hatch seems to have been a little all over the shop. I've had to adjust the temp a few times now and the humidity seems to fluctuate regularly. I keep telling myself that any that hatch will be a bonus and the eggs were free but I really wanted a fair few of the Silver Spangled Hamburgs to hatch . . . I will just have to keep my fingers crossed.

I've read several topics and articles on early deaths and it is so confusing, you just kinda have to guess at what might have happened.

Sorry about your chickies.
