Hatch On Dates: Oct-nov? Dont Forget About This Post!!!

Hope you are OK Heather! Wow. I'm so sorry.

It takes a REALLY long time for eggs to lose their heat. I think 80 would still be good! Momma hen doesn't have a specific body temp she keeps and I definitely have't seen any of my hens running around with thermometers (if I do, you'll see pics!!) Are you in lockdown, or is this before? I think as long as it's before you should be just fine. Sometime I even think temperature fluctuations are more normal than is we try to keep them constant. I know Momma hen doesn't. She's gotta eat too!

Nervous Nellie here....I have two incubators going, one at home and one at school. Yesterday we had lights flickering toward the end of the day at school so I decided to take 4 of the 7 eggs home and put them in another incubator (the car ride home is only about 12 minutes and I had the heat on full blast). I felt it was a risk both ways, taking them home or leaving them at school if the power went out. So, I took a gamble. Well, the power did go out after school for about 40 minutes. When I left the incubator temp was 100 degrees and when I came in this morning it still said 100 degrees so I am assuming we had the proper temp except for those 40 minutes. I know it takes some time for the egg to actually cool down but I would like to know if 40 minutes is too long to go at a lower temperature? Anyone have any experience with this?

I've been very successful at hatching eggs over the years but I have never been in this type of situation before. I guess I'll just keep candleing and watching. The home incubator is on day 11 and the school incubator is on day 8.

you should be fine my temp has been all over the place and the chicks inside the eggs are still moving low temps just slow down the process they usually dont kill them I would be more worried about the temp getting to high good luck!
