when you figure your hatch rate(50%-25%ect...ect..)you don't count the clears,is that right, just the one that develope.or started to develope.
Thanks

I count only the fertilized eggs. Some folks may do it differently.

Yes, that is right; an egg that is not fertile will not hatch no matter where it is, whether in an incubator or under a setting hen. You should only calculate your hatch rate percentage based on all fertile eggs that you start out with.

So if I have eight eggs shipped to me six are clear, two are put to hatch and only one hatchs I have a 50% hatch rate? Not a 12.5%? In my book it's a 12.5%!

I personaly count every egg that goes in, if its clear it a dud and if it just does not hatch it's a dud.

I don't know how everyone else figures their hatch rate, but mine is determined by how many eggs go in the incubator and how many chicks come out of the incubator.

For example, if I put in 20 eggs.....

......1 of them is clear
......2 of them start to develop but die before hatching
......2 of them pip but never get out of the egg

then I have a 75% HATCH rate.....

The FERTILITY rate is 95%

I would like to see how other people on this site do their hatch and fertlilty percentages.

Hatch rate only counts those eggs that begin to develop, no matter when they quit (if they do). Fertility rate counts ALL of them.
