If you want to lower your humidity, you have to decrease your water surface. I've learned this week that the easiest way to do it is with styrofoam. Styrofoam from restaurant boxes, meat trays, bottoms of coffee cups, etc. all make good, flat surfaces to lay on the water.

Thanks everyone! I got it down but its fluctuating between 45-47%, temp according to therm. stays between 100-102 (dont know how accurate that is because its the genisis, preset to 99.3?)

A little update. I candled tonight and will take pics when the hubby comes in to help but the yolks are growing, is this supposed to happen? I cant see anything else tho

... Oh and I added more eggs on Tuesday, 10 EE and 5 Orpington eggs from ILOVEFRIZZLES. We shall see, I hope things are progressing as they should!

So I candled the original 6 eggs I put in (its day 5) and Im almost positive I see veining in 4 out of 6!!! WOOO HOOOO!!!! Gooooo Babies!!! Note: I dont have a trained eye but im pretty sure what im seeing is real lol Wish I could get pictures

Ill try tomorrow night. Im just soooo excited!! I spot checked some of the others and definitely see yolks getting larger. Hoping for the best!!

just a silly note, if you want pictures of your candled egg....
i have an auto flash camers, and i don't know how to turn off the flash... my cell phone actually took better pictures of the egg because there's no flash.. lol... but you need to have no exterioe lights and only the light shining through the egg or you will just see the egg shell..

grats.... isn't that the neatest thing in the world?? i just saw my first baby dancing a few days ago... and the difference from one day to the next is amazing...

Ok everyone, another update! My hubby helped me candle tonight and I was able to draw the "growing" line on all my eggs so I can make sure everyone is progressing as they should. I have movement in 2 of my first 6 eggs. Out of those 6, I have definite veining in 3. Fifty percent as of now, so im not complaining! Then I didnt the next 15. I have veining in 11 for sure, 3 in question and 1 im pretty sure is nothing. So even if I would say I only have 11 out of 15, thats still, what, 73%? Im no good at math sorry.

So 14 out of 21 is... 66%. Definitely couldnt ask for anything better considering its my first hatch and the weather has literally changed overnight!

I have struggled a bit with humidity today so I didnt want to leave the lid off too long today since I drew my yolk lines and wrote each eggs progress down.

Today is lockdown. Out of 20 viable eggs 19 made it!!! YEAAAHHHH!!!! Im keeping my fingers crossed for a good hatch. I have read sooo many different things on humidity at lock down and decided to stick with the 65% range. I ranged 43-45% the first 18. Anyone think this is too high? I cant wait to see little fuzzy butts!

I don't think that is too high. I have only done one hatch and I did 55-60 then 65-70 for lockdown and I had a good hatch! It's hard b.c everyone has different humiditys they use. I guess you just have to try it out and see what works best for you. Hope this helps

Yes, the camera is ready to go! Im sooooo super excited! My first hatch! I hope all goes well.

The humidity is staying between 60-65% (rain, no rain, 75 degrees then 40 degrees outside!)

I placed your eggs in yesterday. I candled before I put them in just to see what they look like. (I didnt do that with the first set) I put a question mark on a couple of them. The yolks free floated in there if that makes sense?!?! The rest stayed in one spot when I rotated them. Hmm.. we shall see. Ill candle in a few days!
