Hatch Video

here's my hatch story... so last year about February I started several veggies from seeds, heat lamps green houses, etc. then about march I decided to get a few chickens so I bought some baby chicks at my local feed store, never having had chickens before, I had only raised dogs and horses. I raised up 4 chicks, then bought a couple goats, then decided I would try to raise turkeys. Then a friend of mine gave a couple ducklings that I raised with turkeys and 4 more baby chicks. Eggs started coming round september, then in December I noticed the roosters goin crazy over the girls so I bought an incubator and so far out of 10 eggs that I put in the bator 3 hatched, originally there was about 20 eggs but I culled most of those because they looked either infertile or non-viable so out of 10 eggs I put in the bator 3 hatched. I'm hoping that the others will in next couple of days or I will have to toss those. I do have 3 more eggs that I dated were laid on 1-6-13 that are in the bator with the turner and will go into the hatch bator middle of this month, but so far I am pleased with my hatch experiment. I call it an experiment so I remain objective if it doesn't work out, keeps me from gettin too upset over the loss...lol. But with all the wonderful help from everyone here at BYC I am proud to be a first time hatchin' momma with a small success.

So here are my 3 fuzz butts...

Thank you Sally for cheering me on and the wonderful advice on your hatching 101 page

YOUR VERY WELCOME!! AWESOME!! OMG true pet addict!! LOVE IT!! How are the goats going? I dont have enough room or I would have everything!! lol!
Thinking.... have you every raised your garden veggies in straw bales? I dont have good ground in the mountains so I am thinking about trying two rows of three bales and see if we can at least get some veggies!!! Do you ferment feed for your animals? I started fermenting chick starter the other day and its bubbling nicely!
Are you going to come hang out with us in the incubating thread most of us check in on daily? its in my signature "where I am at"

I'm not sure how I would "ferment" chick starter I've never heard that before but it sounds cool! and I have an acre here so other than the death defying gophers (my dogs chase the rabbits away) I haven't had too much trouble. They all enjoy the leftovers from the garden and were playing outfield catchers when I'd toss the tomatoes into the pen...That was funny!

I will check out the "where I'm at" I'm still navigating through the pages and reading all the posts...so much fun...I found you guys last year when I was checking coops to build. It's so much being able to converse with everyone all across the globe! Would be fabulous to have a global community bartering system where no one goes hungry, for trading hatching eggs!
