I would also be interested to hear from someone who has delt with loosening stuck eggs! I have a egg stuck in the turner that must have gotten egg white on it when 2 eggs broke during shipment!
sad.png
To make things worse, it is one of only 4 out of 15 eggs that is growing!!
he.gif
I might have to end up letting it hatch in the turner if I can't get it loose. I certainly don't want to risk breaking it

Yeah when mine busted a tiny bit of white got onto another egg and I didn't catch it in time. It is glued in too.... My idea is to either try to take that slat off of the turner and bust the broken egg out and just clean it before the live one cools off....orr just leave it and see what happens
hu.gif
Or try water on a q-tip to try to break up the white and move the egg.

I was thinking about using a q-tip too, but then I started thinking about how eggs are porous and I don't want bacteria to enter the egg! That is why some people say you shouldn't wash eggs before incubation!!
hu.gif
One person on BYC said he uses peroxide instead of water for humidity in his incubator because it doesn't grow that slim/bacteria layer on top of it like water does.

So this time I'm only using peroxide and the water wells look so much fresher!! I think I would just clean what is left of the stuck eggshell with peroxide to kill the bacteria that made your egg explode and leave it and the other growing stuck egg for now. I am going to have so few eggs hatch from this second hatch that I will probably just put them all in the one turner rack with the one stuck egg and make a holder for it to sit on the floor low enough that the hatching chicks can get out and also won't get stuck under it!

Q-tip with water worked to get the live egg out. Can't take my turner slat out though, so going to try to wet it, put a baggie on it and pull.

Actually, this looks like a Black Copper Marans...does she have some feathering her feet??
She looks a lot like mine, plus, the Black Copper Marans (french) do look a lot like the Black sex link...my black sex link has the red too. Other than the feathering, very small amount, on the feet, they look a lot a like. Of course if the hen is laying very dark eggs..that's another way to know..
And, mine also acts like she is all that! She is very friendly to me..very..but she is "the" boss with the other chickens.
The Cuckoo Marans actually looks like a barred rock to me..not to offend anyone, but has that barred look..

Villagechicken - will try to answr best I can for you, I'm not an expert but this is what I've learned during my hatches.

1. once you set the eggs in the bator don't open it to turn the eggs back! the rocking around from the first ones to hatch actually helps the others to get moving along. I always to try think, 'what would mama hen do?' she's not going to roll them back to where they were, plus the air cell line is only a good guess on where they will pip...very often it's right on the mark but I've had tons that have hatched differently (been tracing since last fall). don't worry, they will be fine if they get rocked around. IF you are super worried about that you can always put them in an egg carton to hatch. that works well keeping them from moving around.
2. you will read tons and tons on humidity and so many posts your head will spin! I know for me 65% is good. THat's what I try to aim for. It WILL go up when they start to hatch, in fact if i notice humidity went up a couple degrees during hatch that usually means another egg has pipped. I've hatched out several groups of BCM and they seem to be good with that. Although, I know folks in a higher altitude tend to keep their humidity higher. IMHO, i'd go with 65%.
3. humidity should be higher during lockdown so that the membrane inside the shell, the one the chick has to first break through, needs to be moist and soft so the chick can hatch. Also, after they pip, that membrane will start to dry out, if the humidity is too low, it will get stuck to the chick (shrink wrap). on the flip side, if it's too high, when they internally pip (break into the air cell) there will be too much liquid and the chick will drown. I know that I've had a couple hatches where my humidity was 90% as they were hatching and it did not seem to effect them, but it had been at 65% prior to everyone hatching. The hen doesn't increase the humidity per se (she doesn't sweat, etc) but will not leave the nest so it remains more constant under the eggs.

One suggestion in case you do need to add water, I use some tubing for aquariums and tape a small funnel to one end, put the other end into one of the openings in the top (where you have taken the red plugs out of) and position it so the tube is in one of the channels. I usually just put in a little at a time. Also, if you have a syringe that will fit on the tube that works even better than the funnel (had DH bring me one home from work).

as for my BBS eggs, I noticed yesterday that I was mistaken with my split Lav eggs, looks like i do have ONE that's good! woohoo! only a few more days till lockdown!

Hi I am a new egg too smiling .. I lost my 1st batch due to a few things early this month ... 1st when some of the eggs arrived I put them under a red heat bulb to keep chicks warm .. friends were waiting on me on horses to ride we left when I got home they were ridiculous hot to the touch, however I kept them in the new incubator that arrived 2 days later called the hovobator as well as more hatching eggs.... I thought great here we go... I candled some looked great on some nothing on others...... alot of excitement ....Soon my guy friends quail eggs arrived and they went in as well.... BIG SIGH ... at that point I had three batches turning by hand daily... The due date arrived for 1st batch... nothing for first ones... kept them in just in case ...same with second and third date ... sooo I waited 3 extra days for last due hatch date.... gave up and sadly finally I pulled the plug 2........ days later I decided to take them outside to toss.... GUESS WHAT HAPPENED??
As I was throwing them trying to escape the stench ...... Twards the end of my egg toss there was a fully developed beautiful feathered black chick as well as the next one... I was sick I left the rest of the hatch and ran away ..... LESSON HERE WAS DONT JUMP THE GUN... SOMETIMES SOME CHICKS DO NOT HATCH ON EXACT 21 DAYS!!! One more thing ....a lady named Pearl who runs the feed store has hatched over 900 eggs this season and gave me a great tip... she turns hers over in egg cartons... For those who do not have turners it works fabulous! I just bought 6 polish frizzles 6-8 wks old from the Jordonfamily from here on backyard they arrived today..... boy are they cute but I am awaiting my new chicks to hatch out on the 16th an 26th ..... KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED.. I'll keep you posted! HAPPY HATCHING.. CHANELLE
