Hatch with me! Placed in bator on 5-13-2010. First hatch!

How many did you start with? What bator do you have? were they shipped or local eggs? What might of happened?

I've been a part of this thread from the begining, and just having the usual trouble with shipped eggs!

Hi! I'm jumpin' in here with my second hatch, I set on May 17, 10 PM, so my lockdown day should be 6/4. I am having so much fun with hatching eggs! I have learned to not be so stressed out over it, and now I can enjoy it! I have 28 mystery eggs in the LG still air. I hand turn. I got these from a friend and don't know what they will be...probably barnyard mixes.

My last (first ever) hatch was 80% hatch rate with shipped eggs and I have 28 2-week old chicks-- BLRW, LF Cochins, Mille Fleur D'uccle, B/b/s Orps and one cuckoo maran. None of the rest of my various marans hatched. bummer.

One popped.... Is it just the breed in general that makes them harder, or do they need special care? Mine are just to dark to really tell though, so that is why mine popped....couldn't see the bugger.

I am a newbie too. I have a "little giant" I put the eggs in on Sun. the 23rd.
I don't have a humidity monater, so I don't know what the humidity is, but according to the manual i have it right, both water resavours are full of water. and i am trying to keep temp. at 100f
I feel lika a nervious mother....

I have a mix...of

one dad roo was an pure cockoo Marans, the other a Buff orpington
hens are black sexlink, RIR, and Americana...
last hatch was from this gals friends eggs..very similar, turned out some very pretty chicks!

I didn't mention...as another person above, I also like turning my own eggs..I tried the turner...didn't care for it, so, sold it.

I candled mine just now!! They are on day 10! I got 14/18 that are for sure fertile and are still growing fast, 2 I think have blood rings but I will keep them until day 15 to make sure, and 2 that the eggs were to darn thick to tell if there was a chick developing in it. I'm still happy though!

14/18 isn't bad!

In my last hatch a women sold my Cuckoo Maran eggs - 14. And 3 developed and 1 hatched. And she said her's had great fertility and the were pure breed. Well Now the only one that survived I took her over to that woman's house and had her look at it since it did NOT look like a Cuckoo Maran. You know what that lady said? She told me to my face it was a black Sexlink. And didn't offer any hatching eggs in replacement of the others she promised would be all fertile including the fact she advertised Pure Breed Cuckoo Marans and I got a Black Sexlink.
