pic of my babies with their foster mom (Serama Hen) to teach them how to be chickens....lol. The pic ain't the greatest because they are all huddled together. these are the chicks and guineas. there are 4 other chicks in there that are about a week older but still just as cute.
Beautiful fuzzies and WOW so many of them !!!! I am jealous!!! Well, as of this morning the pip hole is about dime size no zip or further cracking on the egg.....24 hours since first pip showed....it is peeping every little bit and added more water for humidity what now? give it the rest of the day and see what has happened?
I think my hatch is complete now. Out of the 36 eggs I had 23 hatch. For some reason, the RIRs didn't do too well.
Almost all the Barred Rocks hatched first on day 21. So, here are the stats:
7 eggs have not piped or rocked at all.
4 died after pipping (3 RIR/1 Rock) - I opened the eggs and the membrane was VERY thick and tough. They weren't shrink-wrapped.
14 of 18 Barred Rocks hatched
9 of 18 RIRs hatched
I do have one RIR chick that I am worried about. He is having alot of trouble staying upright. He was hatched last I think. I didn't think he was gonna make, but he did. He is still in the bator. The Rocks were just trampling him to death. Today, he is much better. He can sit upright for a little while and even take a couple of steps before flopping over. But he is alert, chirping and interacting. I gotta give him a chance. Everyone else in the brooder except him and one chick. He got his firt meal this morning. So, does anyone have experience with problem?

I had the same problem with one of my chicks. She kept falling on her back and couldn't get up. Now on day 3 she is just fine!
I also had to help one chick out of the shell. My humidity must have been too high because three of the 8 chicks were huge and couldn't turn in the shell to zip and two died
The one that I helped is just starting to get better. She was so twisted that her feet turn in and she has had trouble walking and is still not eating and drinking like the rest. I have to dip her beak and make her drink several times a day. I would protect your baby from being trampled and he should be fine
