Hatch with me! Placed in bator on 5-13-2010. First hatch!

Will do! Right now I have my coop where my layers and their rooster, then i'm hopefully gonna get some silkie eggs from a good friend down the road in about a week or two since her silkies still haven't started laying from being broody. Once they hatch I will build the Silkie's coop and probably gonna put an extension on the building which will be well insulated and have electricity running through it for the chicks.

I candled my eggs!!! And on day 5 I have 100% fertility in 18 eggs!

I made a little calendar thing where It says Day 5 Day 10 Day 15 then Lockdown on it then going down the side of the page are the number 1 - 18 and I put a check mark if it is fertile and an X I'f it's not.

yea! That would be awesome if I had a 100% hatch!

Congradulations! That is super!!! You sound like me~ I put an "A" on my first eggs set and a "B" on the second batch, plus I numbered my second batch of (first shipped eggs due on June 2nd- second batch due on June 10th) eggs because they looked so bad from being shipped!
sad.png
I also made a list of what kind of shape they were in when I candled them before putting them in the incubator. I am also keeping a daily diary of humidity and Temps and candling results. In my first batch 11 of the 15 are still in the bator with 7 of those having bouncing babies and the other 4 questionable

The second batch is on day 3 so I won't candle them until Monday night. My 4 mo. old Black Wyandotte rooster just starting breeding my Blue Wyandotte hens, so I put 4 of my eggs in with the second batch. I was curious if they were fertile so I took a quick look today and even at just 3 days it is very obvious on such fresh eggs that 1 is clear and 3 are growing!!!!

I expect a poor hatch on my shipped eggs since they traveled far, and were pretty beat up!

I will be happy though if any hatch because I need these 4 top BLRW bloodlines for breeding.

That's AMAZING!!!!!!!

I was also gonna ask - What does a blood ring look like? Cause I egg had a baby in it like the others and there were a couple who had a faint pink like, but not all the way around. might have been the yolk

Thats cool that you have BLRW!!! I'm in the process of building a really small breeding pen - 5 hens 1 male - since I am moving to Maine as soon as my house sells. And I'm in Alaska so I can't take my chickens with me. Once I'm established in Maine I will start again with the Silkies then I really want to d BLRW if possible. But I wouldn't be surprised if I had to work on the Silkies for 2-4 years since I want to raise Show Quality Silkies.

you shipped eggs are gonna do good! I can't have eggs shipped up here since I'm in Ak and the traveling would be to rough on the eggs

I have had blood rings look two different ways. First hatch it looked like a thin red circle around where the embryo would be in the center of the egg. This batch of eggs I had one that was a thin red line all the way around the inside of the egg. Most important to note that when the embryo dies all the blood from the veins withdraw into a ring of blood. So you won't see any veins when this happens, just the ring of blood. I have one questionable egg still in the incubator that has a thick line of blood up around the air cell. I'm thinking this egg isn't going to make it

Just 10 more days to go on the first batch!!

Srry on the one you won't think will make it:(! Hopefully it proves you wrong and does make it!! Congrats on the 10 day left mark!!! I'm only day 5
