Welcome VillageChicken! How exciting your in Hungary!? Brillant idea on the BCM I'll have to try that next time! I hope your eggies make it, everyone needs at least a few fuzzy butts for going through all this!!! for the acronyms I haven't seen a thread on that either

I kind of just make mine up as I go! Like CW, LBC etc

Which are columbian wyandotte and Lemon Blue Cochin.

Welcome to the group, VillageChicken! Well I candled again last night and using my candler light and a mini LED flashlight, I could finally see all the action! I don't have a worry about alot of infertile eggs. Looks so far like I have 21 out of 25 that are wiggling, dancing with excellent vein development. I can almost bet $100 that one is infertile, one quitter at about 6 days or so and two that have what appears to be a blood ring, but it look really wide all the way around the egg.

All I know is that there are some baby fuzzy butts waiting for their time in this world to come.

What on earth will I do with 21 new chicks if they all hatch out???? I WISH I LIVED IN THE COUNTRY!! (or at least one acre of land where I am at now)

Hmmm, I know I can get a special permit from the city for $100 if I have more than 4 hens......and most cities need extra revenue....

Most of us are at the half way mark...anybody else candle? Anybody else happily going baby chick shopping, you know, brooder, feed, vitamins, mirrors, toys..etc?

I'm taking measurements for my new pen, also I'm starting drawing out the plans for a brooder made from a big rubbermaid container. I can pick up feeders and stuff just from my local store though. Has anyone heard good things about that green stuff (gro-gel something)?

Are you doing your own vaccinations? I have mine an order of Marek's on the way. So that might be another thread there...How NOT to vaccinate yourself while giving your chicks shots...ha!

So you had to use two lights on your eggs to get them bright enough?

I had one egg that I was sure had a blood ring at day 6 - insides looked all sloshy and the veins seemed unattached - then I saw a little guy in there come to the side I was viewing, and he kind of bowed a couple times! Since then I can't tell which one he was, they all look almost the same to me now. So glad I read something on the forum about when in doubt just wait til day 12!

Yeah the one I culled due to blood ring had a baby in it too I found out. It looked like the air sac was liquidy though. Not sure if it was alive or dead though.

Yeah I'm sticking by the cull at like day 12 thing on my next hatch. Seems easier to tell then!

But live and learn!

Ok, so I went to check on my chickens this morning, give them fresh water and top off their food and decided to take a picture of the nest under my pancake bantie. LOL

So, what do you get when you pick up a bantie girl?

Wow, sounds like everyone in here is doing fairly well, just wanted to stop in and check. Time is drawing pretty close for some of you guys. GOOD LUCK! (My incubator is due in tomarrow... lol spend the evening trying to find a hygrometer and thermometer. Tractor Supply and Hardware neither one had one. Drove 20 miles to pet store, next town away.. haha.)

i don't mind at all! I tried to find someone that was somewhat local, at least close enough for me to drive to pick up, took us about 1 hour 45 min to get there. I've had lots of eggs shipped so I knew if i could find someone local I'd have a better hatch. Her website is http://www.fawnlanefarm.net/ her name is Debbie. Not sure if she is on BYC, I emailed to ask her but haven't heard back.

I'm very pleased with the egg color, beautiful blue color. I'll take a pic and post tomorrow, i'll put a couple next to my EE eggs for comparison. I have three girls that all lay nice blue-green colored eggs.

The end of the Cavs' season was disappointing to be sure! Thank you for the information I checked out Debbie's site and was impressed. I am thinking a chick trip is in the making! Please do post a picture of your eggs though, I would love to see the color one could expect!
