I know I am only new to the forum, (I posted up a greetings in the 'New Member Introductions' thread) although this situation is really an emergency... I am really very worried about this chicken..
My parents bought a group of silkie chickens, (We have had different types of chickens throughout the many years, but this time we went for something a little different and got silkies) so one hen was laying and finally over time, out hatched 13 cute little chickens... however, number 13 had hatched with 3 legs. One leg is situated on the back area of the chicken (all curled up and useless), the other 2 legs are in the right place although it's right leg is all shriveled up. So only 1 leg of the three legs are working proporly... the chicken can't walk.
The mother hen didn't like the chicken and treated it like an out-cast and wouldn't accept it remotely near her. The other chickens would peck at it. So we got it and kept it in a box of blankets with the warmth from a light bulb. Every day I try to feed it just itty bitty bits... and it would struggle to even swallow the food proporly.. (my dad said to feed it mushy porridge and fluids). As a few more days past, it would eat a little more, so I thought the chicken was okay. It also poops, with no blood or anything, which was a good sign.
But today, the chicken seems so... weak. ... and it breaks my heart. I know a lot of people wouldn't care for it or just "put it down", even a guy friend of mine said, "sorry, but I think I would of broke it's neck and burried it by now"... I said "you're crazy".
I'm willing to give the little guy a chance of life. I've seen chickens and ducks on youtube survive with 3 or 4 legs.. But this one is so increadibly weak today and only moves it's head, but it chirps a lot. He is also making an odd noise... and tilts his head up a lot looking like it's swallowing something when there's nothing in it's mouth... a cold maybe? He also keeps it's beak open a lot... I'm worried the chicken can't breathe proporly!... I really don't know...
Please help!! I really hope somebody can help me help the chicken.. :'( It's so innocent and beautiful.. I would love and appreciate any help that is given.
