hatched chick and yolk

What? Another thing that could go wrong when they start hatching!!!!

I hope you chick makes it.
Higins00 how did you clamp it?

Thank you for your question, one of mine just hatched after a long struggle and we noticed yolk in the egg, and a cord connected to her still. She is trying like heck to brake away from it, the shell follows with her. We have 3 chicks ready to come out, but we have several others in there that have pipped and attempting their way out slowly. others that have pipped with not much action. I'm afraid to open and mess up the others. Can I open the bator to get the 3 chicks out? My daughter just came in and said she broke away from the yolk that was in the egg, and is dragging the cord around with her. I didnt know this about them absorbing the yolk, well yes I did, but didnt know it was a problem if they didnt. Hope you dont mind me asking a question off your thread

Good luck with yours.

I tried to put a paper towel on it but it didn't work too good. I kept dabing water on it. After a couple of hours she managed to snag it on something and it started leaking. The yolk was sticking to everything and the chick looked exhausted. I decided to clamp it for about 1/2 hour. I sat with it in my hands and then finally cut it off. I sat another 1/2 hour or so with it clamped to make sure it didn't bleed to death. Stuck it back in the incubator for the night. I had another one last year that had this but overnight the yolk just absorbed.
