Hatched Chicks damaging unhatched eggs???

I've had this happen to me once. The chick hatched out fine during the night, but a few hours later it had a good 2 inches of intestines hanging out it's bum and it was in obvious discomfort. I asked a friend of mine who's a vet about it and he told me unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it and that I should not incubate any more of the hen whose egg the chick hatched from's eggs, as it's hereditary. He did say that sometimes people put sugar on the intestines to draw the moisture from it and then replace it, but with the chick being that tiny and it being so severe I didn't attempt it. We opted to humanely euthanise it.

That's what i have been doing

. I had a broody hen that passed while sitting at first I thought starvation/dehydration now with this going on I'm wondering if she wasn't "sick". My other girls seem to be fine is there anything I may need to be concerned about with this passing to them?

It's not a disease. It's a physical problem and some chickens are just more prone to it than others. And as I've said before it's hereditary, it's passed on from hens to chicks. Not all the hen's chicks will suffer from this, but the odds are that many of her chicks will, which makes her unsuitable as a breeder.

Thanks for explaining this to me. The hen that I had sitting on these passed as she was on them, so with this it makes me wondering if that's not what she passed from. My first thought was that she hadn't ate or drank, what are the chances she is the one that had prolapse. I have checked my other hens and they have no sign of it that is noticeable. Can this go unnoticeable for any period of time. Again thank you for all of your help and very helpful advise, it is greatly appreciated
