hatched egg sleeping???

Chicks are fine to stay in the incubator 24+ hours, they absorb the last of the yolk before hatching and can go a day or two in the machine without food or water. It's best not to open the incubator until the other pipped eggs have hatched so they don't dry out inside the shells. Unless of course there is a reason to intervene. Wait until chicks are dry before removing from the incubator. Congratulations on your first baby! :jumpy

Thank you! i opened the incubator for just a minute to get a fly out that would not leave the chick alone, now after like 30 minutes the humidity in the incubator is trying to go above 70. is that okay?

What do you need to do? Get some fruit (your choice which fruit), chop it up, and enjoy it over 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream and chill. Or skip the fruit and go straight to butter pecan ice cream. The important thing is to chill.

A healthy chick that absorbs the yolk before it hatches can live for 72 hours or more after it hatched just with the nutrients from that yolk. Mother Nature did that so a chick that hatches early under a broody hen can wait until the later eggs hatch before the hen has to take them off of the nest to look for food or water. It is warm under a broody hen. It is warm in your incubator. The chicks may come out to play with a broody hen but they can always go back under her if they need to warm up. The incubator is a great place for that chick for quite a time.

I use hours instead of days because some people think its been 3 days after only 48 hours. No need to panic, there is still plenty of time.

I agree with TwoCrows. If you have an emergency inside the incubator take care of it. But if there is no emergency opening the incubator before the hatch is over does no good and could possibly cause harm.
