Last oct. my neighbor hatched 11 of my eggs for me. Was so excited to see what they would become.

7 out of the 11 were roosters, so disappointed.

So now I have 6 roosters in my freezer.

I had the same issue last year from my flock.. I was trying to get some EE crosses hatched for the nice green colored eggs, I lost count but so far I have only two hens out of all that work.. I had a lady have me hatch for her, she purchased some 43 chicks, two separate batches... She got 6 pullets!!! Trying again this year and my numbers so far seem pretty even so I had come to the conclusion is was just a cockerel year

Definite year of the cockerel last year! Not positive but my hatch rate was close to 3/4 males. Good thing we like chicken for dinner!

I had an old guy tell me that he gives acv to all his girls for about 3 weeks before he starts gathering eggs to hatch. He beliefs that the acv changes the acid level in the eggs and the result is more pullets than roosters. Has anyone ever heard of this? Not saying I belief it just a new one I never heard before.

Well that's just wrong... My flock gets AVC daily and it didn't change a crappity smack thing lol

Maybe getting it every day they built up a resistance. or the apples they made it with weren't tart enough. Or maybe they supposed to be all boys.

LOL, I'm going with the last.. I am convinced my EE's were afraid of producing pullets, thinking I might like the green eggs better than the blue..

I've heard the acid thing favoring girls. Way back in the day, it was even recommended for producing girl human childs! I think there have been a number of studies written regarding an acid environment favoring female sperm. Truth, or fiction... time to do an experiment?
