Hatched my first coturnix - I'm in love

Congrats on the hatch!

Yes, coturnix are generally the calmest of game birds. When you say "I just put all but the two "weakest" in with the button quail for now" you do mean in a brooder setup with at least a 99 deg. F. hot spot?

The dark guy is a dark range pattern bird. It's hard to tell exactly from the pic, but it looks like a couple of wild pattern browns, a white, 2 red/scarlett or what ever you call them range pattern, one dark range, and the one down in the left corner...I just can't say for sure.

Three are jumbo brown, one white, 2 red, and the mystery which you are saying is dark range. The eggs were all marked but I couldn'tfigure out the code on the mystery bird since he destroyed it when he zipped.

There is a third red and the two weakest will probably be culled. One has zero use of his legs for some reason, he was also completely upside down in his shell and one is super skinny and flopping all around and won't eat or drink.

Yes they were put in a brooder, the button is only 3 weeks old. They had to be removed though because the button is abnormally insane. I think it is because he has been alone too long, even though he is handled by me every day.

I put them back in the incubator with food and water until I can get down to theisen's this morning and get yet ANOTHER heat lamp. Can't have too many of those I suppose...

Thanks - I have some more buttons due this week myself. I already like the coturnix better, but I like the colors and size of the buttons.

A few of my eggs weren't marked well ( just a few) or on the dark spots - his might have been one...
I wonder who could have done that? Hmmmmm. Ftmeyersquaillady? (I have your BYC name completely backwards in my head and can't seem to fix it)

I was just picking on you

They are all in their new temporary brooder. Going to look at what wood I already have and then go buy what I need and make them something nice. I have the plans - just need to get the stuff together. Booger is now in his new prison - I need to get him something to hide in I think. It's funny - this bird cage is probably 6 inches longer yet he paces the same length as his old brooder.
