Hatched? Or not?

Hey!
Just checked on my broody girl, she had been sitting in some eggs (4-5) and I just looked under--- there is one egg, cracked shells but no chicks. There is very little ways the chicks could've been taken by birds or foxes... I'm so confused

How long has she been sitting on them? Are you sure you didn't pick up the chicks when you lifted her up? I've done that before.

If you didn't, it is possible they were eaten by something or even cracked and eaten by the hen herself. Do other chickens have access to the nest?
