I made a homemade hatcher, with a thermostat and a 40 watt bulb. It gets up to temp, but when the light goes off the temp drops way down. I don't know why its doing this because it is set up right beside my incubator with the exact same set up. Any ideas?

i do not know a lot about this but what i heard to do is put 2 lights in there one being a low watt light to keep the heat evan while the other one being there to heat it up if needed i hope someone else comes along that knows more

Hi again

The light is providing heat, causing the temperatures to rise.

When the light goes off, it's no longer providing heat, and the

temperature drops. Just because the incubator beside it has
the same set-up, One light still doesn't provide as much heat
as two, so turning one off makes a big difference. (:

but i thought that the incubator would hold its heat a little better than it is, when the light comes on it goes to perfect temp and stays there, as soon as it turns off it drops. in the one beside it the light goes out and stays at the same temp and within a couple minutes the light will come back on. im just wondering why it is acting so different in the hatcher

it has two holes in the same spot as the incubator, i think it might be the thermostat, it has three screws on it and the one in incubator has two

It may or may not be the thermometer.

I had a bad thermometer last year - it ruined my

entire hatch. The temp. was 5 degrees lowert than

what it was reading the entire time.

maybe look

into getting a new one?

I have put two seperate ones in there and they both read the same, i was hoping it was that!! oh well i have a different plan now that seems to be working so im going to stick with that!!!
