Hatchers Anonymous *Official Thread*

Well, the first thought that comes to mind is: Don't count your chickens before they hatch!

Y'see, they don't all hatch. I anticipate and expect that fact.

But I am gonna be in a world of hurt in a very short time, myself, due to my addiction to hatching. I plan on giving any "duplicate" breed pullets to any local BYCers who want 'em. I odn't mind raising 'em to 12 weeks or older. Roosters, wellll.... crap. I'll eventually have to do SOMETHING about them.

Gotta go check on the 3 chicks which have hatched today, and see if they have any little siblings who've joined 'em yet.

I hatched out 22 out of 23 chicks 4 weeks ago. Sold the 22 at 3 weeks old, just realized my girls are giving fertile eggs so now you know what I am doing. I said after 1st hatch I was not going to do that again for awhile too stressful, well... 4 weeks that a long time isnt it?

By the way mine are RIR/BR crosses.

Here is one of my latest hatch:

I have no idea what color it is. *scratches head*
I have silkies and coturnix due to hatch next Friday (?), but other than that, I'm out of eggs!!!! 0.o

I want to buy more but...I don't want to buy more. Not sure what to do here, but I may just put more coturnix eggs in if the fertility on this hatch was low. They did just start laying a week or so before I put these eggs in.

Nekhebet, do we know the breed??? It is just precious!!! I looked back through the thread, but couldn't find anything for a clue on what kind of chick this is. Wait...maybe you shouldn't say, so I won't be inclined to want some of those!

Kidding!

It looks like plenty of us had hatching going on this weekend! I am so glad to have found you peeps. Seeing these pics is like getting a "fix"! haha

My photographer friend came down Saturday and took tons of horsey pics and several of the chickens, too! I can't wait to get them back!!! I'll be sure to post. They won't be nearly as cute as these fluffies, though!

Horses? They're more expensive than chickens......aren't they?

I've decided, like you, that it's time to STOP! I also want to enjoy the holidays..but have to wait for these that I just put in a few days ago. Not only is it becoming expensive, it's sad at times. I just had to cull a young chick that I discovered that is blind..and I mean blind. It finally started to act weak, because I can only give it water, I can't feed it...it called out to the other chicks when it got seperated..in the beginning, then today, was just laying around, tilting it's little head and listening to them. I've had to put other chicks down too for different reasons. Not a fun thing to do for sure. So, this morning I thought, I don't want to do this any more this year..then I come on here and see this thread. Yep, time to stop for a while. Maybe in the spring I will try some more..but fear that I will just get going again. I feel so sad right now..my only little girl out of the Welsummers that I hatched, I was really excited to see that I got a girl..she was tiny and cute.

They're Serama chicks. Very tiny lol.
I'm working on silkies next weekend....Friday should be hatch day actually, I think. Then I think that I'm done lol. Chicken overload...but...so hard to not look at the egg auctions. At least its going to be snowing soon, so no more egg shipments for me.
