Thanks! I love that sign! I have it on our coop/barn door.

I figured this thread was as good as any other to say..... WOOHOO! My eggies are developing. 10 out of my 11 shipped eggs are developing nicely. I'm so excited! I cant wait for them to hatch! Cant wait to find more eggs to hatch!

For months I have longingly read every post under this topic but never ever thought I would join the ranks of a chronic incubator/broody user. Then I happened upon a few fertile farm eggs and a really good deal on a great incubator. That was all it took. One time and I'm hooked. The sad thing is that I am a city-chicken-owner so I don't have a lot of room and I can't keep a roo so I can't hatch my own eggs. I have to buy everything. I guess I'll have to start adopting out my extra pullets to help me with my problem. The roos are another matter.

You would be surprised at how easy rehoming the roos can be, really. If you are hatching more rare breeds, the roos can be sold on places like Craigslist or at local farmers markets. If they are not in high demand, offering them for free often works. Be prepared, though...many who take them plan to eat them. Try as you may to ensure good homes, once they are gone, they are gone.

Pullets can often be sold much more easily.

I am trying to get the more unique and rarer breed/colors. Most people here start with the usual hatchery offerings, I have them too, because they are proven good layers and with a flock of 3 that's important. Many of my chicken friends have never seen a silkie! I already have requests for the pullets. I'll do my best by my roos. But if I think about it, even if I had a huge farm and kept all of my hatchlings, the roos would have to go somewhere, like my own freezer. That's just the way it is. This way maybe most will find good homes.

And, BTW, thanks for enabling me. You know I'll keep doing it!

That's what we're here for! haha Well...some of us are trying to hold out and live through the hatching of others, but same difference!

I've never known something so quickly addictive. I just saw a new coop on the side of the road that is the perfect opposite of mine. It would do nicely for an add on...you know, once I enlarge my run... MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

You asked for 'em...(Sorry non-horsie folks, OT)
