Hatchers Anonymous *Official Thread*

Lauren I had a SLW start laying about two weeks ago. She had just gone over 25 weeks old so there is hope! I do not do additional light for them either and it is getting dark so early now! Still waiting on two Ameraucanas that are almost 9 months old and a SLW and a GLW that are the same age as the other SLW. I might have to wait for spring for them. Oh well at least I am getting some and checked for fertility when I made poached eggs this weekend. Looks like Mr. Cogburn will have some youngsters of his on New Years Eve!

I really belong on this thread too. Everytime I put up my bators ("for the year" haha) I just end up dragging them out again lol.

Hello,

My name is Carolyn and I'm a hatchaholic. Got back into chickens Early Febraury 2010 with 2 RIR's just starting to lay. Since then I have recieved 12 BLRW chicks now 6 months old, purchased a Blue Standard cochin pullet that ended up crowing, and two turkey--1st one was delicious by the way). I built an incubator and ordered my first eggs in October. got 2 black Frizzle cochins -sold the rest from that hatch problay should have kept the smooth black ones( but at the time I wasn't think far enoug ahead. Decided to do one more hatch for the year- due to hatch tomorrow. Then thought it would be great to get just more in to broaden my chances of getting eoungh smooth and frizzle Black and Blue hans and roos Cochins to breed this summer. Have yet to tell DH about this next batch of eggs due to arrive tomorrow morning for hatch right before Christmas

I've been checking my coop for signs of eggies...nothing. What can you do...

Tomorrow I pay for the gas for a co-worker/friend's pick-up, and we take off to drive 90 minutes away to pick up the ginormous brooder I purchased over a month ago. The four brooder bins in my bathroom are getting crowded with growing chicks and 4 ducklings. Plus, maneuvering in the Nursery/bathroom is awfully dicey.

Good thing I live alone!

I've been home sick yesterday and today, having a "spell" of fibromyalgia pain and related issues. My furred companion animals have been laying all over me to snuggle, 'cause they know Mommy is not feeling well. Wish they would move faster when I need to get up out of this recliner, though. I feel guilty disturbing the cat and two dachshunds when I need coffee, meeds, or to "visit the Nursery."

I have eggs still due to hatch on 12/9, plus I'm a participant of the 2nd Annual NY Hatch - gotta go get TJ eggs for that one to set on 12/11.

Linda so sorry to hear that you are under the weather today. At least you didn't wear your pants backwards to work today again!

I'm gonna check myself in early..as I see myself quickly getting addicted to hatching. Day 7 w/ duck eggs. My boyfriend sent them to me to pass the time during the holidays while he's away from home due to being in the Military.

Right now just have a homemade bator but already looking into what bator I want to purchase in the upcoming months
