Hi all just found this thread and thought I'd join,
Not that
"I" have a problem, it's really compounded by the hubby - we
"BOTH" have the problem.
All I wanted was a few geese for the pond. But he bought some hens as
"fence testers" for the new electric fence. Well, then he bought some ducks. And he found an old Hatchright someone was selling for a couple hundred; being an engineer, he knew he could fix it.
So, I just had my first hatch on the 5th (edit: my first hatch of THIS YEAR), and am going to put in a bunch of bantams x's tonight. Ducks have only just started laying so it will be a while before any of them go in. And of course, I'm in the BYC Easter hatch.
So, yeah, it's going to be a problem. I tried settling on a breed, but they are all so darned cute - and my customers love all the different coloured eggs.
I keep telling myself it's in the interest of science. I"m going to try and do a paper on colours, genetics, inherited versus learned behaviours, but If the truth be told, I think that's just an excuse. Isn't admitting the problem the first step in a cure?
