hatchers hatcherers..... who's expecting peeps on septembre 24th or so... :)

One seems to be better, but it only had one splayed leg, the other, well we shall see...To only have issues with two of them at this point I am very glad..

Oh and #21 just pipped :)

we had to put down one of the chicks tonight that had the leg problem, We had two, one with both legs effected and the other with only one leg effected... We taped them as directed and the chick that had both legs sticking out is doing great, took the tape off four days ago and as of tonight we couldnt tell which one out of the 18 chicks it was...great sign, the other chick that only had one leg effected , well the tape didnt work, it developed a sore on the back of its leg that we treated and kept seperate, two days ago we took the tape off and decided to give it a day ir two. Tonight we checked on it and its foot had turned black and swollen and it couldnt walk on it at all so we made the decission to put it down.. Saddens me because it was one of only a few with unique colors..

so sad but you tried the best treatment. such great news about the other sounds like you got an excellent result. how are the others ? did you watch who started getting wing feathers first? i have 30 ducklings now from 3 momma ducks. and one of my broodys left the eggs as expected lol

All 19 are doing great, moved them out to the "new coop" Sunday, when my husband and I had origanaly built the coop years ago we made it very large and used part of it for feed and hay storage, we enclosed that, added a run and thats where the chicks are now. I was able to determine which of the hens laid some of the eggs but of course not all, I have a good barnyard mix so trying to determine who is who's baby is kinda hard, of course I know the EE's but thats because those eggs were blue

they are 2 weeks old today and they all have thier wing feathers, If I can catch the buggers I'll try and get pics but one of the chicks is pretty unique and its the largest ( I believe it is from the BA ) the smallest (we call it the runt) came from EE and it is the one we thought wouldnt make it but is doing fine.

Did you put the eggs in the incubator?
Dont know that I could handle 30 ducks lol, having a hard time wrapping my head around the thought that I now have that many chickens and 20 rabbits with one of the does due to birth in 6 days...lol... Our acre of land is fast becoming alot smaller :)

the auction is this weekend but i have kind of changed my mind about going lol especially since the ducks are pushing its their turn now. you can feather sex your babies if you can remember who got their feathers first these will more than likely will be your hens. i noticed you are following the double yolker too yep have to see the outcome there interesting. there is a thread i am subscribed to in the hatchalong she doing eggs and bunnies too. you have to post bunny pic when they come out with mom. sounds like your chicks are living it up in their new accomodation. we havent fixed back pen yet got a heap of wood for next winter from the tree that fell. been trying to get these crates all set up did 3 so far and havent done the pens yet but the night boxes are done a totally fox proof lol i put one of the cats inside a served food on outside i figured if cat cant get out foxes wont get in and the mesh is strong they wont tear thru it DH is going to fit auto waterers and laying boxes that are on the outside and we are trying to build silo feeders on each one.

LOl, I cant even seem to remember what day it is so yeah, remembering who got their feathers is not something I kept track of, I also take care of my elderly Mothing in law so she keeps me hopping which is why I am on here so early, got a call at 2am, she got confused and didnt know where she was so she called 911... once awake i dont fall back to sleep easily... She is fine, hubby went over and got her back in bed.. Going to have to make some tough decissions real soon..
The rabbits have been an interesting venture, we got a couple for free and then added two more back in June, we raise them for their meat and so far have been very satisfied and have people requesting them when they are ready... between the meat and the pelts its going to end up costing us nothing to raise them.. I look to be able to do the same with the chickens.. I'll try and gets pics of it all.

lol your MIL god bless her. sounds like she keeping you and the emergency services busy. my eldest daughter volenteers at a home she loves it. its great you use all the rabbits i have the skins of the sheep we ve eaten are on the floor and i was on this subject (but kangaroos) on the aussie thread a few days ago. i carve bullhide too so have always seen value in skins and pelts. that excellent you are turning some profit its great when something you enjoy transpires to hard cash it makes it worth it and theres always food in the backyard if the government decides it cant decide so go off for holiday been on our news alot. very strange your politicians.

LOL, now thats an understantent!!!
I think along the way they have forgotten they work FOR us. Without giving up my political leanings lets just say the people of this country have forgotten what our founders imagined our country to be...Got alot of folks that expect the Gov to take care of them. ( I think I just gave it away) lol

Good updates.... looking forward for more pics my friends...... did u know that I tried my first incubator.... a week ago.... we got a lamp a water dish and a baby thermometer.... and just put tow eggs from the same hen.... it all happened rapidly and in the same time... we connected the lamp to a UPS so when the power gies off the lamp is still on.... and we just tried it for fun and see the results and correct mistakes for further trials... we didn't expect anything actually.... as I said we just got crazy and tried..... I know tonnnsss of info about it but we don't have the equipment for it and no mini incubators here unfortunately.... and we've been hatching our chickens using broodies forever.... after three days I candled and the veining were there... but from what I could see ... they died after the first veining... we cracked them and the did died.. but the veining was there... that gave me a push to really start on incubators next summer after I take my hpd....

Sorry, best I could do at the moment... These little guys arent pets, we don't handle them alot as we are gone so much, they run from us now instead of to us...
