Hi everyone todays a better day the dog has new home without poultry no taking any chances of yesterday's rude awakening happening again. All chooks with missing feathers seem ok the black xbred banty hen is still missing still looking tho. The 7 week olds that I have had at a friends farm came back today they look great and they changed heaps. So did the australorp banty trio I have 6 of their eggs in and 6 more to go in. Maybe. It great u found out what your creepy crawlys are majd I glad its easy to get solved. Americanmom don't blame yourself chicks don't know the trouble they get into when they leave moms side but your neighbours should have come told you straight away. Sounds like they have too many dogs that amount is illegal here without kennel licence. How many angelbrenn? Just the 3

Hear ya on finding the dog a new home, we did the same, after cross fencing the property and not only raising Chickens but also deciding to raise rabbits for meat (boy do they multiply quick LOL) we also had to find our pup a new home after he decided to try once more to get into the enclosure.... We didnt have the time nor the energy to train him against it. As for the neighbors, we live rural, they can have what they want on their property and we would never complain as hubby is a welder/mech and sometimes works late into the evening in his shop. At this point whats done is done but like my husband said, we have taken there dogs back numerous times after coming onto our property, we have ran their cat out of our flower beds and away from the chicken coop numerous times, If the oppertunity arrises we will let them know that we are securing our side of the fence against the animals getting out, we expect them to do the same, there dogs have a taste for the chicks, we will not tolerate and incursion onto our property.
Good that things are better for you today...Looks to be a great day around here, hubby went with son to get a couple cords of wood to finish out the year for him, My sons wife and kids are coming here around noonish to watch the Oregon Ducks game (Go Ducks)!! guys should be back by then, what better way to spend a Saturday then with family and of course my super sweet Grandsons ages 3 and 4.. Yes that sounds the best Saturday afternoon it Sunday here tho back to the school morning rush tomorrow. Although today I did go to see a breeder to get another Sussex banty hen she had barred rock bantys and jap batams as well...think I m in love lol think hubby going to have to build another pen. She said i should join local poultry club not sure i could find the time tho. people who live not far from me are big in it they brought all my friends pheasants. I brought a trio of seabrights from them. We live in rural area too we can just see our neighbors silos although it not the outback its all grain I crops. The canola crops are such a bright yellow at the moment the glare off it hurts your eyes. i put our two horses in our bottom paddock just hoping they dont jump the fence and get into it. We can't really have bunnies here the government released a disease here to stop the spread of feral rabbits it spreads by infected mosquitoes rabbit breeder lose stock to if often and it aweful they lose the vision and then paralyzed they die there's no way to stop it or vaccinate agianst it. It kind sounds like mjad sleep chook disease only no bunnies survive. Anyhow its late here i hope your team won. Ps i found room for in bator for those extra australorp eggs Lol.

My wife and i set our first eggs on August 30. Twelve silkies and five from our mixed pen of four Phoenix hens, two RIR hens, and two BR hens. At the time of collecting eggs there was one RIR rooster, one BR rooster, and two EE rosters. Since then the BR and RIR rosters have been rehomed. Removed six on our day ten candling due to two blood rings and three clears in the silkies. And one clear in our mixed eggs.

yes I used to have digital hygrometer in it as well as two factory temp gauges only have one factory one now but I have metal basket which keeps hatched chicks from knocking the sensor. It known for drowning chicks tho that's why I dont alter humidity for hatching. my hens are not that reliable i have had so many dead and damaged chicks trying to use hens something always happens. Most recently my silkie honeypot deserted her nest on day 12 and my Plymouth got attacked by dog (she is ok but not going back to her nest). In last couple of days a pekinx silkie (i breed these for brooding) decided to sit on 8 eggs in the pekin pen she will do well but a large light sussex in the back pen is on 12 eggs so there probably going to be fatalities there lets just say I won't be counting her chickens before they hatch.

Some are purchased eggs ( Brahma, Welsummer, Cream legbar, Ameraucana) and some of the eggs are crosses of my RIR's and Ameraucana and pure barred rocks since my roos are barred rocks and my eggs came from barred rock hens, Ameraucana and RIR's. I was amazed when I candles that i could see the babies move. From the candling pictures that I saw I thought that the pictures had been taken with time lapse photography but, nope thosee little buggers are jumpin around in there like jumping beans. Well...... good luck with all of your hatches

gosh 65 for first hatch that's not mucking around. Hope you ready if they all hatch. Its going to be an exciting event for you. Hope they all hatch for you especially your brought ones and it sounds like your own pens will produce great birds.I m bias I got barred rocks darks someone told me easy too sex boys are slightly lighter but i have a few girls as light as their dad. All the best with your hatch.

Thanks. I started out with 76 inside of my incubator but, I got rid of the clear ones yesterday. I love to watch them flip summersaults. Some have gotten so dark that is too hard to see them now. Does anyone have any tips on how to get decent pictures of candling? It is hard to take a picture in the dark with no flash. Maybe adjust the camera to have the shutter stay open longer??? It is too dark inside the eggs to get pictures now but, maybe next time.
