Hatchery Question

Hi I want to order some baby chicks soon and i'm trying to find the best hatchery that is closest to me. I live a little bit north of San Fransisco. I would like anyones opinion on which hatchery to order from Thanks!

Hi,

My advice: Don't order from a hatchery.

Also, do a "Search" on BYC for "hatchery" or even me as the "Author" and you should find ample discussion on the topic.

i just got some from ideal too. i lost a lot in the process of delivering, they arrived late. shipping puts a lot of stress on chicks from the start. if you take some time to look i bet you will find at lot around you. now that I have ordered mine already, i am finding them all around me even some rare breeds. I will probably never mail order again. check out here at BYC or www.craigslist.org under farm and garden.

Now is really not the best time to ship chicks. With the cold snaps they can and will die.
