I got silkies from cackle. I don't have pictures of them as I do not have them any more. Stupid predators kept killing them. Mine were extremely broody for being hatchery birds. I will for warn you that I only ordered one color and they sent me black, blue, and splash.

hmm ok thanks i have a count of 30 chickens that i ordered from cackle and strombergs and i was thinking of getting more and so i wanted everyones idea of were to get them and sorry for the loss of your silkies

I've ordered from McMurray, Ideal, and MPC, and like MPC the best, because they are the only ones who can get chickens to me overnight (I am in Mass.) so the chicks arrive in better shape. It took 3 days from McMurray (several DOA's and some droopy chicks) and 2 days from Ideal (no DOA's but some droopy chicks).

I've ordered from all of them at one time or another (except my pet chicken) and got good service from all. Quality varies from breed to breed and hatchery to hatchery.

Ideal has the best customer service for my money. I've ordered several thousand chicks from them over the years. Never had a problem with any of the hatcheries though.

I'd order from the hatchery closest to you that has what you want.

I ordered from Purley Poultry, Meyer, and Mcmurray in the past.

Purley poultry has very good/healthy chicks (but there a middleman). Meyer, I did not like them at all cause many of the chicks I got were runts, but I did keep a rooster that is so nice and friendly from them, I guess it depends on breed when your buying from Meyer. McMurray, I liked alot, I live in CT and had no DOA and none died at all untill I had a rat prob about 2 months after but that's not the hatchery fault.

I guess Mcmurray is my favorite i'll prob order from them again for egg layers next year. I'm also looking into Urch/Turnland poultry for good quality birds next year.
