Hatchery vs. Local Feed Store

I can't wait, tomorrow I am getting a frizzle, a silkie, and 2 old English chickens, they are from my feed store

I trust the feed stores because you can pick which ones you want

I prefer myers hatchery i order from there myself lost only one chick. Ive ordered from tsc and got more roosters then hens so i would stay with meyers

With the hatchery all the concerns of shipping are on the feed store not you.

I got mine from a local feed store and got what I wanted! Also all female, yay!

I prefer hatcheries over feed stores. I always order from McMurray Hatchery, and though the chickens aren't 'breed standard', the chicks are always healthy, and hardy. I haven't lost a chicken yet! They're also typically good at sexing their chicks. Last year I ordered twenty chicks, and only one ended up a rooster.

Are feed stores hatching chicks themselves?

Let the feed store order and receive your chicks, they assume your losses and after you take them home, that's on you. If your ordered chicks come in on Thursday, pick them up Friday or Saturday.

Know ur feed store, we do a lot of trade with them, they will order the kind and # we ask for, shop local.....

Our local feed store gets their chicks from Meyers, they come well posted with breed and I can pick out the ones I want from the group, hold them and look them over for illness or other issues before I pay for them. So far (5 years) all the ones labeled as pullets were! I just like being able to get the number I want and being able to see what I am getting. Good luck!
