Hatching 11-13-09..anyone else?

I have two babies so far.

One had hatched before I got home and the other had just pipped. When I got home it was cheeping to high heavens telling everyone it expected a great birthday present. We had to go to the store (so much for my plans). When we got home, the other chick had zipped and was sticking it's head out of the egg.

I'm using egg carton to hatch. Judging by how much stuff is sitting in the bottom of the eggs, I'm glad that's not on the bottom of my incubator.

I do have a question, though. My humidity jumped up to over 70 percent since the chicks started hatching. This is despite the fact that I've pulled out one of the vent plugs. Should I pull out the second one or just leave things alone?

I am so totally geeked about this. And I have a feeling I'd better get started building more coops.

I'll post pictures a bit later. They're not too pretty right this minute.

I have two babies out. One seems to be struggling to get out of the egg carton. It's in a strange position and I'm so tempted to reach in and put it on the bottom of the incubator. The other chick, on the other hand, has been all over the place, including on top of the first chick. I'm worried that if I don't move the first chick, it will die. And if I do, that I'll jeopardize the rest of the eggs.

Any suggestions?

I set seven in my Brinsea Mini Advanced.....so far I have 5 (one weak and with a partial yolk not absorbed....what are the chances here?) Number 6 is pipped and seven looks like a late death. Any advice on the sickly one would be great!

I've got 3 chicks and one more pipping. I don't think the first one out is going to make it, though. It's smaller than the other too. It was cheeping really loudly when it first hatched, but it's still in the egg carton and is barely making a sound. I desperately wanted to open the incubator and help it, but I was afraid I'd compromise the others.

DH took a look at it and said he doesn't think it's going to make it, either. Where the second and third chick bounced out of the eggs and started traveling around the incubator, this one has been in the same place for hours.

This incubating stuff certainly isn't for wimps. I can't imaging what shape my nerves will be in 24 hours from now. Too bad I never took up drinking and smoking. At least I'd have something to do other than watch and worry.

Why do you think it is not going to make it? Has it absorbed the yolk? Is there any blood? Or, do you see it as just weak? Oh, I sure hope it makes it!

You are right ... it is very wearing on the nerves!
