Hi all we are doing our 1st proper hatch and took 9 quails out of the incubator at 24 hrs at day 18 as they seemed very thirsty and were knocking all the other eggs around. Today there has been i pipped but unzipped unevenly as it is trapped on the egg rotation turntable that I forgot to remove at lockdown not sure if it'll make it 4 were moving this morning but no more pips .. and haven't seen them wiggle this afternoon they have all been pushed to the edges of the incubator... should I leave them ? And assume its colder there therefore they are late? Or do they need help? Many thanks ps 2 developed splayed legs on paper towels.... I have taped them with medical tape ... any advice appreciated wishing u all a fabulous day 😁

Good news guys we got one egg hatch this evening so I will just hope more hatch out i thought about why the LHS didn't hatch like the RHS ie earlier and think the temperature must be cooler on the LHS as i filled the LHS humidity chamber below RHS and not the LHS .... the eggs were also newer on the RHS... food for thought yes I must grab a rubber liner many thanks 😊

assisting quails can be tricky... if the incubator had low temps throughout they will hatch later but the chicks can also be weaker and fail to leave the shell after pipping.

I left them and today day 20 I see 3 pipped... but we lost 3 baby quail as they got their head stuck under the heat mat and died i have changed the set up so there is no gap... good news the splayed legged chick are ok after 24 hrs of medical tape....such fun and so much to learn have a great day all:)
