hatching around the 26th post UPDATES here

Well I can't win for losing. I went to turn the eggs and temp was at 109, ahhhh. I had turned them earlier and the temp had dropped so I turned it up and life happend. Kids got home, helped with homework, cooked dinner ect. Forgot to check temp. They are probably gone, but will check in a few days and see. Hope everyone else are doing ok. I just want to cry, these were my first polish eggs and hopefully my first polish chickens.

Oh no! Maybe it wasn't elevated long enough to effect them. It takes a while for the insides of the eggs to warm up.

next time, ignore the temps after you turn, for at least an hour. If it is still low, then you can turn it up, but very gently!! I assume you have an LG?

Nope its a cooler bator we made. I actually forgot I turned the thing up, I feel so bad. I tried candling when I caught it and the veins look so much lighter then the other night. But that could be my imagination. I am just hoping it took a long time to get that hot and they will be ok. Mine has a heating pad for heat, might luck out and it take a long time for a heating pad to get the cooler that hot, but it was around 4 when I turned it up and almost 12 when I caught it.

It would take a few days to know for sure if it affected them. But I don't think it would get up that high inside the egg. Higher temps are not that bad, so long as they don't stay high for too long. I was worried about my LG when I first got it. It would bounce between 97 and 103. I found a lot of incubation sites that said it was okay so long as it didn't stay at either extreme for long. Good luck!!

The last one hatched last night (finally) and it is such a little stinker!! Every time I check on them (which is a LOT since I lost the last newest one to drowning in the waterer...who would have thought baby ducks would drown?) the newest one has stuffed itself up under one of the older ones!! The other ones are all at least 1 day older than the new one, if not 1 1/2 days, so this last one looks pretty tiny compared to them! It is amazing how fast these little guys grow!!

Aww, it thinks they are its mama. So cute! I bet they do, the only baby ducks I have had were my 2 Rouens and they did grow fast. Did you get any rouens to hatch out of your eggs?

The newest one is a cayuga/rouen mix, it has the stripes on its face by its eyes. One of the other ones is a cayuga/rouen mix as well, it has striped feet! (yellow and black) I'm pretty sure the other 3 are pure cayuga, which is good. I needed more to add to my flock. I only have one pair of cayugas. I'm still trying to find some pure rouen ducks or eggs, since I have 3 boys and only one girl. Maybe these babies will be all girls, and the 2 extra rouens can have them a mixed girlfriend?

My cayuga drake would be the happiest of all if that were the case!! So far, counting the baby pekins, everyone has one girl

3 pair of pekins...Toot and Puddle are a pair too! 1 pair of cayugas, and 1 pair of rouens, with 2 extra boys
