Ok I believe I didn't cook them. I candled 4 last night or this morning depending how you look at it, before I went to bed. I saw babies moving in them. The little eyes are finally big enough to see through the shell good. I feel alot better now. I think if it hurt them they would have died already.

Thanks, hope your RIR's are developing well. I am keeping a very close eye on my temp. now, I think I have been checking it evey hour.

i just order some 29 ee's ( 25 hens and 4 roo's) (chicks that is) from mc murrys they will be here on the 9th. how do i stop the addiction? or just get it under control? my wife thinks i have lost my mined (got 36in bator and ordering more) LOL and got it setup to when the ones in bator hatch will set 36 more. i have it bad don't i. LOL

I tried to candle the eggs tonight... I get no light shining through the shell.. What am I doing wrong

Cardboard with a hole in it right put the egg up to the hole the light shining through the hole RIGHT

it is totally opaque nothing coming through...

Did you shine the light through the top or bottom of the egg? I always shine mine through the top (air sac) of the egg, it makes it light up pretty good. But it could just be that the chick is too big to let the light shine in. What day are you on? Try shining the light through the top, you should be able to see veins at least. Just don't turn the egg upside down! Turn the candler over. I use a small LED flashlight to candle with.

The top is the big end, where the air cell is. If you shine the light through there, you should be able to see something. Even up to hatch day you can see something this way. The rest of the egg will eventually be completely dark.

I candled with a better flashlight tonight - still nothing on the marans eggs but I DO see beautiful veining on only TWO of the ameracaunas. DH and the twins helped me and they were so excited! The other 6 am's look clear, we cracked too and there was no development but I'll leave the others for a few more days. I'll probably be looking for more blue/blue wheaten ameracaunas next month!

momofdrew - what kind of eggs are you candling? Some breeds have very dark or opaque shells that are harder to see through.
