Hatching buddy? Set today, due May 18th

Here is a picture of Mrs. Grumpy before I moved her to the hutch. She has stayed faithfully broody so far.

Mine is in a rabbit hutch in the same run as the main coop. I had the door open yesterday, but this morning one of the buff orps and the speckled sussex kept trying to get in, so the door is now shut. She has quite a bit of room to get up and move around but she hasn't. I did pick her up and put her down in the run with the others and she ate a little, but that was it. I hope she is getting enough nourishment. There is food and water in the hutch, but I don't think she is touching it. Should I be concerned?

Bad news - went out for final check and noticed yolk in nest. One egg had smashed under her. She was nesting on a nesting pad so I was able to replace that pretty quick. I thought she had eaten the egg, but when she stood up there were pieces of shell stuck to her. 5 eggs and counting. We only started this on Wednesday! It's going to be a long 3 weeks!

I like that hatching smell. you know, that certain smell the incubator gets when chicks hatch? I love that smell

even though the smell isn't so... attractive, i just love it because that's the smell i get when baby chicks are being born

I just moved her into a dog pen underneath the poop board. It fit PERFECTLY and gives her 2x4 of space with the nest at one end and food/water next to it. She chirped at me until I started putting the eggs under her and then she started tucking them underneath her. I'll check on her in a bit JUST to make sure she's staying put, and then will be up at sunrise to check her again. I really hope she stays there, it would make my life a lot easier and the chicks would be safer when they hatch!

It's day 2 and it looks like Molly has successfully been moved to the floor! She was there this morning and I don't think she's going to budge. I'm not going to take her off the nest to poop today (I'll let her do it herself) to give her time to bond to her nest
