Hatching call ducks for the first time

Calls usually hatch on day 26, but sometimes go the full 28.

Do you know how long I should wait till I should assist?

Since Calls often need help, I take the tack of letting them internally pip, waiting 24 hours to see if they can externally pip on their own, and if they haven't, I add a safety hole. Then, if no further progress in 24 hours, I'll begin assisting further.

Yes that’s what I have been seeing. I guess you don’t learn until you try. I still have a little ways to go. Do you know how long I should wait till I should assist?

Whether you have to assist greatly depends on the stock your birds are coming from, Higher quality birds have a shorter bill and smaller body, therefore, cannot pip as easily as pet quality birds that somewhat resemble a mallard. Do you know where your eggs came from?

I just saw this and realised I typed 28 before.
It's been a day or two since I fired up the incubator oops.

Hi,
Well I bought them on eBay and of course they are “super rare” that’s what the seller told me. They are Australian Spotted Ducks. I have 2 that went into lockdown today. I can clearly see the one moving and it’s beak. The other one I didn’t see any movement. I hope it’s ok because I did have one explode 3 days ago, yuk! that was the
most horrific smell!! I cleaned all the eggs with a half “gold listerine” and half water mix, I read somewhere that was a safe method. It looks like it one is trying to make the pip hole. I see a yellowish mark on what looks like the membrane. I read that rare ones most likely need help. I did not know what I was getting myself into but with that being said it is what it is and I need to make sure I get them to hatch. So do I have to make the pip hole? I am very thankful for any advice you can give me.
