Hatching chicken eggs for the first time!

Yea it sucks. I just wanna sit here all day and watch it. I am thinking of making another one since I have the materials already and tweak it and get it more stable with the temp so before they go into lock down I have it all ready. Maybe only put a few holes in at a time and in different places. Idk.

What day are you on?

Tonight at 9:11 will be my 3rd

Ok, I was worried you were on day 13 or something and your temps had been that low all along... try and get them more stable in the evenings and you might still be able to have a hatch happen on time.. I know I had issues for a few nights it going down to 99..

It has been stable at 99 pretty much all day I'm covering 2 little holes like every hr now to try and get it up to 100. I just hope it works out. I feel like I'm screwing up.

So what should the humidity be?

Why not just turn up the thermostat-----I have never had to keep opening and closing vent holes. The last time I checked my humidity it was in the 50's while incubating and around 70+/- for hatching. I checked the humidity the first time I incubated/hatched with the incubators I have now and I have never checked it again----that was over 1000 chicks ago.

Well this is my very first time hatching eggs and I made my incubator from a cooler. My humidity is staying around 27-28 and I just wanna make sure it's ok. Also if I don't keep an eye on the temp it goes up to 102 and that's not good. At least form what I have read and been told.

I talked to several on here----not sure how yours is set-up----Are you using a fan? What type thermostat? Is the thermostat close to the heat source?

My incubator recommends 45 to 55% humidity for incubating and 55 to 65% for the final hatching. These numbers have worked for me and I hatch hundreds of babies every year. One thing that has worked for me is keeping a cool mist vaporizer going in the room during incubation and hatching. I live in a very dry climate where the outside humidity is often below 10%. If you live in an area where outside AND inside your house is humid then you may not have as much problem keeping the humidity at proper levels.:)

I finally decided to make another incubator and tweak it. It has been staying at 99-100 temp and 50-52 humidity.

I have also been turning it only 3x's a day. Wish me luck.

Sounds like good numbers. Keep us posted.
