Hatching Delaware

Yeah, the place where i purchased them from told me they can vicious when little with pecking. Who would have known when they grow up to be such calm and sweet birds?

I am going to place pics of my incubator just as soon as I can figure out how! Also, once the little ones arrive. I hope they wait until the evening to hatch. They are due on Tuesday the 23rd or Wednesday the 24th. I can't help but to stare at the incubator. Jeez it seems like forever.

Sounds like you've got a promising hatch in the making. I just put some of my Delaware eggs in the bator this morning. My son has already gone to check if they've hatched about a dozen times. lol

I feel the same way!

This is my first time incubating and now I keep buying up eggs so I need to stop. I have some gorgeous Welsummers being shipped out tomorrow and I had inquired about some Embdens, so I need to stop. I won't have room for all these guys. I think I may ending up selling a few if I get too over crowded. Perhaps I should start my own hatchery?

Oh it's soooooo addictive. I'm already planning my next three hatches. lol The bators full and yet I still check out Eggbid just to see what I'm missing out on.

Ok, so after my virus attack on my pc last night, I am back one! (Whew!)

So I candled my eggs and I still have about half growing. The other half is not too promising, but I am still going to wait until day 14, next Wednesday. Some look clear and then you turn over and there is this black thing.. I think one has a blood ring which would be sad. I know the likely hood of a 100% hatch is tough, and these guys had a rough start with a non-broody hen and then I am rushing to the feed store finding the last incubator! TSC was out and only had turners.

So, so far so good. My Toulouse eggs are doing well and they are on day 5.

K&H Chicken Farm :

BTW I just read the note the breeder sent and it said do not brood under a red lamp. it will incresse picking with the Delaware.

I have 3 young Delawares and I have always kept them under a red lamp. They are my sweetest babies ever! Its the Anconas that are picking some. I thought the red lamp was made to decrease picking??? (Still new to chickies....)

So its Day 9 and I have about 12 more days left until my littles ones (hopefully) hatch. I have to stop with the eggs because I have Welsummers on the way and need room for all of these. I have a lot of chicks coming up soon!

Ooh, I'm so excited. I can't wait until my eggs come shortcake!! The hen is grouchier than ever. She is really getting tired of me taking her eggs!

I have three delaware pullets they are pretty sweet but I know hens always get very sweet after they start laying so i can't wait for clemantine and her sisters to start the former member Purple Chicken hatched these girls.
