Hatching Delaware

So I am getting more and more prepared as we end day 16. I ended up making a mistake when I mixed hatching dates in my incubator and I feel like I might have screwed it up a bit. However, I am assuming that since the Delawares are silky in feel compared to the others, they are alright.

In that case I am taking my chances and on Saturday I am going to place all the Delawares in a carton so they don't disturb the others.

I also read some people don't fill their reservoirs until day 18, but my incubator instructions said to fill it when I started it up. I wondering if that makes a difference?

Despite my back and forth, I am going to candle one last time tonight and tomorrow. I heard bad eggs can explode and I don't want any of that, however all my eggs have gone dark inside and quite a few have movement too. I read that someone's grandson just stuck the incubator in his room and left it alone. On day 21 he had 11 out of 12 or something like that. I wish I could just walk away and not worry.

We'll see.

Yeah! I am approaching day 18 (finally) and the best part is the skillet incubator that Farmer Kitty has. I made my own twist on it and it works.

I have the humidity at 60 right now and the temp a little over 100. So far so good. Tonight I will add the Delaware eggs and sit back and wait. I am sooooo excited that I can hardly wait. Come on little chicks!!!

So, I have been so excited I started another couple of posts, but I am staying true to my word about keeping this one updated for anyone that has subscribed to it.

I came home from Epcot and behold, I have an egg just shaking about. I thought I was losing my mind until I confirmed its a shaker. Just moving back and forth in the egg carton, which is a blessing I may add. Anyways, a few others look like movers too.

I cannot wait to see what happens!

Oh, well he and another died in the shell. I had another 7 not fertilized at all and two stop growing at some point because they were just masses in the shell.

On the (hopefully) brighter side, being on Day 23-24, I have an egg moving a bit so I am hoping I can at least get this one to pip. Heck, one will be better than none.

I placed an order a few days ago with Ideal to be on the waiting list for Delawares. I should be getting them sometime in May; I hope soon!

Tomorrow I am also off to the feed store to check out what they have. i am a bit concerned about it only because I had bid for 6 and I appreciate the fact that I received 14, but had I only received 6 or 7, I think I would have been a bit upset.

This is a learning experience so I may try this again someday. BTW I have Toulouse and Welsummers going on and they are due next week! Wish me luck everyone! I need it after this last batch.
