I have had several hatches, but this one was different. I had 18 eggs that candled will on day 23 (takes 25 days to hatch) now day two of hatching. I only have 3 that made it, but there is something in the bottom of the incubator that looks a lot like a yoke. I have never seen this before. Any thoughts? all so, any thoughts on why I lost so many? the heat was good, the humidity was good, HELP

Three hatched? If so, then the yolk you see is indeed yolk. Yolk that was not absorbed and that chick has slim chances of making it. It does happen. Look for a chick that may be leaking fluids and that is the one.

i would suggest maybe double checking the temperature and humidity with a new thermometer just to be sure. i would also like to ask what ducks are you hatching? i would leave them for a further few days and see. then i would crack open to see if they even started or at what stage they died and it could give you a few ideas.
it could be a number of things really.

Thanks for the response. I am hatching Welsh Harlequins. The temp and humidity seemed to work great. We checked the temp with an external thermometer a couple of times and it was right. ^ of the ones I lost were fulling developed and piped thru but just got to the beak sticking thru and died. the other 7 never even piped thru but were fulling developed. Any thoughts?

OH WOW! thats very sad to hear.
tbh im still learning about the incubator. i have had a lot of babies (chicken and ducks) hatched by the mother hen but i have only just got a incubator myself and my first try was terrible 40 eggs and no hatching's (most didn't start and the ones thats did died a week into the incubation).
have you hatched through an incubator before?

I have only been reading up about muscovy ducks as thats what i have. however maybe look at the process of the egg before it has to go into the incubator. i know yours actually grew into a duck then died so the only thing i can think of is the humitidy wasnt right towards the end and maybe they got shrinked wraped ?
