I have an early hatchling, too. Just one out of 8 eggs, so far. Nothing else has pipped, but one egg has hatched. This is the first time I've used an incubator OTHER than a Brinsea and ..... we'll see..... But I set very late on 1/1/11, so didn't expect anything to hatch until tomorrow.

That is funny. I was just coming here to post about my early hatching last night. Well, pipping.

Jan. 1 chicken layed them
Jan. 2 set them in bator
Jan. 19 lockdown
Jan. 20 first pip
Jan. 21 another pip!

Sitting on my hands.....

If the average incubating temperature is a bit high, they will hatch early. If it is a bit cool, they will hatch late. Genetics can influence if they hatch a bit early or late. I've read that smaller eggs of the same breed can hatch a bit earlier than larger eggs from the same breed. If the eggs are stored a bit too warm before they go into the incubator, they can develop a bit and hatch a bit early. The 21 day is a guideline, not an absolute law of nature. Odds are they will be fine.

Look who was waiting for us when we came home from dinner... "she" was the first to pip this morning, all the others are in full pip mode.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

When should I start moving them to the brooder? I don't want them to be crowded.

Should I wait until they all hatch or at each one's "12 hours old" time?

I was told not to open the bator if they are still hatching, it will shrink wrap the others. I was told they can stay in bator for 3 days without eating. Don't open it until all are hatched.

DillardHome congrats!!!!!!

By 7am this morning all have hatched except one. This one was put in 1 day later than the rest of them.

I am trying to see if it has pipped but it's hard to tell since there's condensation on the inside of the cover. I think I read where someone stated taking the bator inside a steamy bathroom if you need to start removing hatched, already dry chicks. Or should I wait through today and see what happens?
My first chick is 12 hours old, the rest of the chicks are less (at this time).

What should I do????

Wow, what a great hatch rate! If it were me, I would take it into the steamy bathroom, plug it in and let the temp recover, then quickly get the others out. I would do this only becuase my mini advance recovers temps and humidity really quickly. Or you can just wait a bit longer and play it safe. Since it was a day later than the others, it needs that day to hatch. Good luck, and would love to see more pics!

Just precious!
I'd leave them in til the hatch is done.
