Hatching egg troubles (updated may be more urgent)

Quote:
this is day 25 now i think, all of my chicks have been late.
And the temps were from 99 to 101.
Still airincubator.
Went gimpy on day 19, so now I have to have a heat lamp pointing at it to keep it the right temps.
I am glad to say though I purchased a new incubator, which isn't still air, and isn't made of foam.
Never using this foam one again.

Its OK, it happens. I dind't want to sound like a "know it all" but as soon as I saw the pics I knew they went long at a slightly low temperature. This I learned through trial and error.

The chick I had to help hatch had the problem with bleeding and took a bit longer to perk up an become like the others. I worried about her for awhile but after awhile she was fine.

Make sure the other chicks are not bothering him/her.

I had one hatch out on it's own and it was bloody like that. The shell was bloody inside too. It made it though but I was sure surprised that it did. Havn't had one like that since.

I forgot to mention, we made our own brooder and used a heat lamp. This seemed to work ok. If you are still having problems with the incubator you may want to invest in a heat lamp. You can easily get the Red heat light bulb and the lamp at Walmart for cheap.

The sad thing is as I am sure most chicken families will tell you is that you learn to become very frugal and creative when it comes to constructing for your feather friends. Our brooder is made out of a plastic tote, chicken wire, and a heat lamp. Works perfect!

Having some troubles with the one that was hatching along side it yesterday, since it didn't zip properly. it only zipped like half an inch then t started breaking the egg downward. Its been hatching since 5 am yesterday so i don't know if I should intervene or not.
Oh and we named the chick from yesterday Valentine, it made it through the night, which we are happy about, and it just now started actively walking around the incubator.

so happy to hear valentine made it and is doing well, now go to the Incubating and hatching eggs thread and you find alot of folks that can help you with that question.. I hope it appears soon.[the one still trying to hatch that is]

I ended up assisting that one, because it had dried blood on it, that was making it stick to its shell. So it couldn't move at all.
after it was out, it had dried membrane stuck to its back. I got that off, but there is still blood and dried membrane stuck on its wing.
I won't bother it again though for awhile, it needs some recovery time.
And yes I am very happy too, my family thought it wasn't going to make it, but I kept saying it would haha.
Valentine is a beautiful yellow chickie. It is a very creamy yellow.

Actually in my room (where the incubator is set up) has the most stable temps in my entire house. The incubator just stopped working as well suddenly. like it was fine for the frst couple weeks then it suddenly stopped getting as hot in there.
