Hatching eggs came in today! (PICS!)

Jeremy,

Those first days go so slowly, then before you know it, the last week is here and you're scrambling to put the brooder together before they hatch.

Day 3... My family is here visiting from Texas, so hopefully that'll get my mind of the hatch. L0L. Temps are still holding, as is humidity.

Waiting, waiting, waiting.

Fast forward to day 11...

I just candled for the first time, I've read through the different incubation threads hoping to be able to understand what I was looking at, I guess we'll find out in a couple more weeks if I am right about what I saw.

The results thus far are,
14 Delaware babies showing growth!

I saw large black blobs, with lots of viens.

1 Delaware egg I removed, it looked as if it had cracked and oozed out egg goo... it was from Ellie, Cyn.
1 Delaware egg had what I believe to be a bloodring. (Will these eggs really explode if left in the incubator???)
3 Delaware eggs were clear. Darn.

The only Dell egg I removed was the cracked one from Ellie, should I remove the rest?

Also, I was only able to set 6 BBS Orp eggs. (Not enough room in the incubator for them all.) Out of the six I only saw definite signs of growth from 1 egg, one of Smoky's. Double Darn.

Most of them showed only a little bit of shadow in a mostly clear egg, anybody know what this could mean?

Most of the eggs that showed growth kind of puzzled me though, looking at the pictures people have posted recording the different days my eggs looked like they are actually closer to day 13 or 14, not day 10 or 11 like they should be. What could this mean? Are my babies just racing towards the finish line?

Now we wait some more.

Jeremy, re those possible blood rings...I left one of Skye's eggs in and re-candled on day 13...still was not sure so I left it and re-candled on day 17 and removed it then went into lockdown. I had no problems with any eggs exploding.

I would re-candle the questionable ones in a a couple of days....then see how they look.

Re; the orp eggs...they go through so much during shipping...there is no telling...also, Suede is a big guy and making a good mating connection is not always on target. Both of my Suede babies are from Smoky eggs....my skye eggs did not make it and now she is gone.

Dusty was raising babies at the time so no eggs from her.

One other thing...some of Cyn's orp babies get huge in the egg....Thor was a huge baby/ So, them looking really developed is not unusual. One of my dellie babies was that way too

Jeremy, I know little to nothing about incubation, but still want to wish you luck with what you have going, and to say I am sorry about the Orp eggs-

But one is better than none? Maybe you will get a Thor or an Ultrasuede and be deliriously happy!

I only remove obvious blood rings at about this time. If you aren't sure about one, leave it in. One more candling, when the eggs should be full of chick, will show you others that may have to be removed.

Sorry about those Orp eggs, Jeremy. It's been like that lately, was hoping it was better now. I do think Suede has some issue with Dusty, physically, but he seems to be very in sync with Smoky.

You asked:

The only Dell egg I removed was the cracked one from Ellie, should I remove the rest?

I'd only remove something with a distinct blood ring, but you could wait a day or two and recandle on whatever you aren't sure about.

Good Luck!

I have some Smokey Girls and they are really nice, I am pretty sure the Blue one is from Skye and the only Skye baby I ever got.

Thank you all so much for replying! I was so nervous candling that I probably missed some things due to lack of concentration. I'm going to candle again this weekend and we'll see what I get.

Oh, my chicks came in from McMurray today- expect chick thread later tonight.

Day 18 has arrived and we're now officially in LOCKDOWN! I can hardly believe that it's already time for them to hatch. I candled tonight for the last time, 14 Delaware eggs, 14 W/BW Ameraucana eggs (from pips&peeps) and 1 BBS Orpington egg are all now nestled comfortably in the incubator awaiting the big day. Hopefully by Thursday I'll have 29 little fuzzy butts to put into the brooder!
