hatching eggs for others?

I keep an ad locally offering my egg hatching services for free. I love love love hatching but cannot keep all the chicks. On rare occasion, I may keep a couple chicks as "payment". I do it simply for fun.

I like that idea. That way you're also getting something for the electric no matter what.

I like this thread too.

On the same note. Have any of you calculated what it costs you to run your incubator 25 days?
2 to warm it up and an extra day or two to get them to the brooder.

actually i tend to keep my incubator running 24x7, and the hatcher too, except for when a hatch is over I take it apart and clean it then get it going again in time for the next hatch. that lets me keep rotating hatches going. I try to stagger my hatches to about once a week. that way if a couple eggs go long i still have time to clean it out before the next.

so if i can make a bit of money hatching for others maybe that will keep hubby happy if he thinks they're not mine.

So are you keeping them? SOunds to me he owes you at least 5$ a chick now! 1 bag of feed for 50 chicks is nothing!
