Hatching Eggs from Miss-Jayne - Mahonri & ChevygirlBeth

Yay! Glad yours got there!

Mine are nice and toasty in the incubator. I've been turning them (no turner in this incubator) and have managed to do that without affecting the temp and humidity too much. They drop slightly, but go back to normal pretty quickly.

We were at TSC today and they had little ducklings. We were looking at them and DH was actually pretty excited about the possibility of having some ducks hatch out! He was talking about how he wanted to play with ours so they would come to him out in the yard when they grow up.

I can't wait!

I just realized last night (I am so dense some days) that one of my eggs from my cousin is from her ducks! So, it will be a Khaki Campbell cross.

None of her chickens are white egg layers... and duck eggs do look a little different (it is a smaller duck egg about the same size as the chicken eggs because they haven't ben laying long), so I should have figured that out a little sooner! lol.

Well the turner is working. We have two therm/hygroms.

One says 100.8 the other says 99.5, so I guess I'm in the ball park.
One says 40% the other says 43% humidity.... I'm going to let it get down to 35% and try and keep it there.

So we'll have chicks hatching from the 24th through the 27th and ducks from May 2nd onward!
Happy Birthday to me! (4th)

I checked out some of mine tonight and I mostly learned that I need a brighter flashlight! I couldn't tell much with most of the chicken eggs. All I could really see was a darker blob in the big end of the egg. I am a little worried about the leghorn and bantam eggs (they were the ones I could see the best)... I didn't notice any veining there.

In the duck eggs I checked, I saw some veining, I think. I did not check every single one, though. It's day 6 for me... I was just impatient and had to see if there was something there!

If you have a chance to go to Home Depot, buy a LED Lenser. It candles Maran eggs!

(A little pricey though... $49 & change + tax.)

Thanks... it will be a while until I can get to a Home Depot - that is a bit pricey, but I gotta get something better! I am disappointed in my Mag Light... it has never failed me before (of course, I've never used it to candle eggs before either)!
